A rule change pushed by White House officials would slash benefits or end support for as many as 400,000 Supplemental Security Income recipi
The Trump administration wants to make a rule change that would decrease or end benefits for SSI recipients who live with their family. As many as 400,000 disabled people may have their benefits cut if this rule change occurs.
It's worth noting as always that as things currently stand, the MAXIMUM benefit a person can receive from SSI is $994 a month.
If two people on SSI are married, the MAXIMUM they can receive is $1,491 a month, total, for both of them. (Meaning marriage to another SSI recipient reduces your maximum income possible to $745 a person each month.)
Could you live on that?
Could you live on that without living with family?
"the world accepts and accomodates wheelchairs but not MY disability"
—things said by disabled people who live in a magical alternate reality where the majority of infrastructure isn't as hostile to wheelchair-users (especially obligate wheelchair-users) as it is to every other disability, if not moreso in some cases
"why, not playing the game at all of course! games are much better when they don't have any pesky game in them, especially for the disabled, who typically access the game parts even less."
it is a very popular trend right now to add, like, features that skip the engagement with an interactive work of art, such as skipping combat or making combat impossible to lose in a combat-focused video game, or in the scene of TTRPGs making your TTRPG completely dumbed down or just hastily and mindlessly making it a D&D5e hack "because people already know how to play D&D5e and I want it to be accessible" instead of expecting people to actually read and learn and engage with a set of specific rules, and call all of that "accessibility" instead of adding "accessibility" features that would actually help disabled people access the "meat" of whatever the interactive art is.
If it's a combat-focused video game, some examples would be helping them engage with the full depth of the combat by allowing the controls to be fully remapped to something easier for their hands(or lack of hands), or the option to disable flashing lights or reduce the intensity muzzle flashes on the guns or something.
I think I have come up with a good example to illustrate this point. Let's say there is an FPS where you shoot aliens. Pretend it's, like, Halo but not specifically Halo.
And let’s say there’s a group of disabled gamers who are excited for this video game.
Missing Finger Guy is missing at least one finger that corresponds to the Dodge button, he can’t reliably press it especially on short notice when aliens are coming at his character. So, he can’t really play the game because dodging is required to beat the levels. The game devs provide an “acccessibility” easy mode that turns off combat or makes the enemies do so little damage that he never needs to use the Dodge button. So, Missing Finger Guy can play the game now, right? Wrong. Dodging enemies *is* the game, and he still never gets to play with the Dodge button, or engage with any of the other elements of the game that are watered down by making enemy attacks not matter. To make the fun gameplay of dodging enemies accessible to this player, the answer is to allow remapping the Dodge action to a button that he can reach.
Deaf Guy
The game expects the player to rely on audio cues to know when enemies are sneaking up behind them or when a grenade lands at their feet or when an enemy is about to do a specific attack. Obviously the deaf player can’t hear these and can’t play the game because he’ll just die all the time to attacks which are literally impossible for him to predict. Again, this could be “fixed” by a mode that makes it so it doesn’t matter if he doesn’t hear a grenade land at his character’s feet by removing the consequence of death for failing to notice the grenade, or you could add the option to turn on subtitles for both story dialogue and sound effects like “[grenade beep]” and “[screatchure scream].” One of these allows the deaf gamer to play on roughly the same playing field as other players and react to threats the same way that hearing people can do that he can engage with the meat of the game, and the other doesn’t.
Colorblind Guy
The video game features enemies that are identifiable by their red and blue armor. Red aliens throw red grenades that you can catch and throw back, and blue aliens throw blue grenades that explode by proximity and you just have to fully avoid. Obviously, a colorblind player cannot reliably tell these apart, and would either have to try to throw back grenades at random and hope for the best, or just avoid all grenades to be safe. You could “fix” this by removing the consequence of death for getting exploded by a grenade, or you could fix it by adding a togglable colorblindness mode that switches the color distinction to something visible or adds some other distinctive feature besides color to one of those grenade types. One of these allows the colorblind player to engage with the intended gameplay of the game by taking informed risks by trying to throw back certain grenades, and one of them doesn’t, making it just not matter what decision he makes.
Poor Eyesight Guy
You get the formula by now. The *actually* accessible feature would be allowing him to adjust the text to be more readable instead of making it not matter if he can read the directions that tell him how to get through the minefield safety by removing the consequences for stepping on a mine.
A mode that simply removes consequences for failing to engage with and react appropriately to the threats the game presents is, at best, appealing only to people who don’t actually *like* the gameplay in the first place, while still shutting out the people who *want* to engage with the full depth of the gameplay but can’t because of some disability that prevents them from doing so as intended.
Because the gameplay isnt just seeing the cutscenes and getting a “level cleared” achievement, it is dodging the enemies, throwing back the grenades, listening for the screatchure screams, etc..
If there is an enemy who is super tough from the front and will kill you if you can’t get around behind him, you don’t make the game more “accessible” by making him so weak from the front that it doesn’t matter where you shoot him, or making his attacks so weak that you can shrug them off long enough to whittle him down from the front, youve actually removed this enemy from the game by making him just like the common enemies that can be shot from the front. You have actually made the element of the gameplay provided by this enemy inaccessible by doing this, because the quick thinking and tactical usage of the game’s features required to get behind him *is* the gameplay.
It’s much easier to explain this via video games but it goes for tabletop games as well. A TTRPG is more truly accessible for having big easy-to-read font and clear explanations so that players that want to engage with that game’s rules can do so even if they have reading difficulties, than if it just went “eh it doesn’t matter if you read the rules or not.”
Difficulty levels are not disability accomodations. OP explains that very well through their examples here.
I like difficulty levels, sometimes I don't enjoy a specific aspect of gameplay or I just want to blast through from cutscene to cutscene, and being able to toggle a zero-consequences baby mode is a nice option to have.
But most of the time I want to play the game, and to do that I need to remap half the controls. Let me remap them, don't treat me like I'm incapable of playing video games or like I don't deserve rewarding and engaging gameplay just because I can't move the mouse as precisely as the other guy.
It's like, you make a museum accesible by putting in ramps and elevators, not by telling wheelchair users that the art on the upper floors isn't all that great and they shouldn't want to see it in the first place.
I know I'm preaching to the choir here, and most people who follow me are very much of this opinion. But like...
So much accessibility talk is not actually about letting people engage with your game who otherwise couldn't due to a disability or physical limitation.
Rather, it's an idea of accessibility in the way a CEO would want a movie to be more accessible to a wider audience. As in like, "This movie's audience is too niche and it's ideas are too lofty, make it more accessible."
Both of these are "accessibility" in a sense, but those are two VERY different definitions of the word, you know what I'm saying?
Ideally, I'd like art which is naturally inaccessible through it's themes and difficulty and ideas to nonetheless be something people who have physical limitations (Or... Well, technological limitations, economic limitations, whatever else) can experience
Yes, this is a term that is being co-opted to prioritize corporate profits by appealing to a "wider audience" which includes people who don't actually like the product, while leaving disabled people shut out and, in many cases, calling them ableist for saying "an invincibility mode is not an accessibility setting, instead give me tools that will let me play the game without an invincibility mode the way everyone else who likes the gameplay can."
People in the tags are already going "hello i am the strawman from your post! I bought a game without realizing there was combat in it and i don't like combat so invincibility mode was an accessibility setting to me because it let me avoid the game i don't like!"
"but I bought X thing and didn't like it! So, wider audience thingies!"
Return it. Put it back on the shelf. Donate it. Shrug that it wasn't an experience you were super into but you still had a new experience! Research your purchase next time. Read the back of the box closer. You're not SUPPOSED to like every piece of art you come across, humans are varied. Grow robust and flexible, defy nazis.
It's worth pointing out that cops in the US adapted to these problems through using grand juries to cast wide nets and do punitive fishing expeditions in the wake of any serious suspected left-wing actions.
Here's how it works:
Someone starts a fire at an army draft office.
The cops look through their files for anyone who might be in the political orbit of someone who'd want to do that. People picked up at protests, for drug charges, vandalism, anyone who is already on their radar. They look into their known associates, anyone they live with, anyone they drink with.
Then they start subpoenaing these people for a grand jury summons. They give you immunity (but only for the matter of the grand jury!) so that you can't exercise the fifth amendment against self incrimination. If you say nothing, they can imprison you almost indefinitely for contempt of court. If they catch you in a lie, that's criminal perjury.
They'll ask you for information on everyone you know. Obviously they'll ask about their involvement in any crimes, but they're casting a wide net. Who knows who, where do they hang out, who talked to who about what and when. They'll ask you to spill interpersonal stuff, whether anyone is cheating on someone, whether people have substance abuse problems or embarrassing personal issues, if anyone is closeted, anything they consider dirt. Anyone you name is gonna get subpoenaed and they'll be asked for all this information on everyone they know, including you, and although you have immunity from your own testimony, you don't get immunity from each others.
Assuming you didn't personally do anything they can prosecute you for in the matter of the grand jury, they'll go after you based on what they know. The cops will arrest you on any little thing they have suspicion of, even if they know they can't prosecute you, just so that they can keep you in jail for a few days while you miss two shifts at work and your friends have to scramble to raise bail. They'll leak any embarrassing info that comes out, to your boss or your family or even the local press. Whatever they can do to make your life a little harder.
They will lean fucking hard on anyone who is involved in the scene but had second thoughts or felt like they were dragged into something they never wanted to do in the first place by their friends. The cops will say 'do you want to get your life ruined by people who did something stupid over something you barely even believe in' and sometimes that's a very compelling argument! If people have dependents or kids who they think won't be looked after if they go to prison, there's a lot of pressure to cooperate.
It's important to note two things:
1) Based on the ratio of actual prison sentences to maximum possible sentences for the charges, it's better for people not to cooperate with the jury both individually and as a group. People who talk still get sentenced, with the information they helped provide.
2) These aren't surgical strikes, they're an artillery barrage designed to destroy infrastructure and send people running for cover. Cops don't want you to have friends, they don't want you to hang out and have fun, they don't want you getting or providing food or shelter through anything you can't get fired from. They don't want committed direct-action people swimming freely through a sea of friendly people. They're not scared of the flower, they're scared of the soil that grows it.
A court record reviewed by 404 Media shows privacy-focused email provider Proton Mail handed over payment data related to a Stop Cop City em
"Privacy-focused email provider Proton Mail provided Swiss authorities with payment data that the FBI then used to determine who was allegedly behind an anonymous account affiliated with the Stop Cop City movement in Atlanta, according to a court record reviewed by 404 Media."
Can we please not do this. The lesson from this is not "so long as your payment can't be traced to you you're fine." The lesson here is that Proton will give the FBI (via the swiss govt or not) whatever info they ask for.
in order to exist they have to comply with local laws, the benefit of proton and signal and other similar platforms is that they straight up do not have the majority of the information they could be subpoenaed for. finances are the exception legally, you still need good opsec
The lesson here is not "Proton pretended to be good guys but secretly they were bad guys :( "
The lesson is that you cannot just find a "privacy focused" email or message app and assume that means you can say whatever you want because no one will ever know it was you.
Email is inherently insecure communication. Proton is a decent company that mostly avoids collecting the kind of data the fed wants. But you are not invisible behind a proxy or a vpn, encryption is not a magic ward, and you need to have at least a basic understanding of opsec before you got doing shit the fed might come looking at you for.
🇯🇵🇵🇷🇺🇸recall of large 70% isopropyl alcohol prep pads due to microbial contamination capable of causing life-threatening infections🇺🇸🇵🇷🇯🇵
alcohol prep pads are also known as alcohol wipes. they are used to disinfect skin and medical equipment (among many other uses), most frequently in medical settings like hospitals, care homes, blood draw centers, anywhere some kind of medical thing goes on or into some kind of skin. these wipes are supposed to be sterile and safe to use directly on punctured skin. so you typically do not want to find life-threatening microbes in there.
pro tip: alcohol prep pads work great for disinfecting anything capable of taking isopropyl! such as (certain types of) phone cases, remote controls, doorknobs. think hand sanitizer but without the extra ingredients. just make sure the surface in question gets thoroughly wet and you know which objects and materials are damaged by isopropyl alcohol, like a ton of fountain pens.
the recalled alcohol wipes are large 70% webcol by cardinal health, which are contaminated with paenibacillus phoenicis. which can kill you. and unfortunately, as it turns out, is not killed by 70% isopropyl alcohol. recalled lots are at the bottom under the cut! really long list. over 300 lots are being recalled, cardinal health waited almost 3 weeks to publicly announce the recall despite reaching out to major customers on march 2nd, and it is fairly difficult to even find the recall on cardinal health's website. overall, this recall is not a good look for cardinal health and webcol, and they could be trying a hell of a lot harder not to harm people with their own contaminated products.
DUBLIN, Ohio, March 19, 2026 – Cardinal Health has issued a voluntary recall for select lots of Webcol™ Large Alcohol Prep Pads (70% isoprop
FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE / DUBLIN, Ohio, March 19, 2026 – Cardinal Health has issued a voluntary recall for select lots of Webcol™ Large Alcohol Prep Pads (70% isopropyl alcohol) to the consumer level. The product is being recalled due to microbial contamination identified as Paenibacillus phoenicis.
There is a reasonable probability that use of the contaminated pads may result in local and systemic infections in at-risk populations; patients with impaired immune response, including patients with cancer receiving chemotherapy or poorly controlled diabetes, may develop life-threatening infections such as bacteremia or central nervous system infections.
The Webcol™ Alcohol Prep Pad is used for external use only and utilized for cleansing.
some emphasis mine.
all the way from dublin...ohio!
these alcohol prep pads, also called alcohol wipes, are contaminated with dangerous bacteria. this bacterial contamination is especially capable of harming people with impaired immune systems, such as from medical conditions or previously having been infected with certain types of illnesses that damage the immune system, like covid-19. infections from this bacteria can kill people or disable them for life.
alcohol prep pads are individually wrapped and are supposed to be sterile and free from germs. they are used to get rid of germs in medical settings like hospitals, make medical procedures safer, and are supposed to be safe to use directly on people with life-threatening medical conditions.
alcohol prep pads can be used on punctured human skin, medical gear, baby toys, basically anything that can take isopropyl alcohol and needs to be cleaned. these wipes are supposed to help prevent microbial infections, they are often used directly on the punctured skin of sick people, and these are often used in place of hand sanitizer before touching eyes, nose, mouth, food, etc. microbial contamination is BAD.
alcohol prep pad pro tip: sniffing an alcohol prep pad / alcohol wipe / isopropyl alcohol in general can help relieve nausea! they are really handy to have around! ones that are actually sterile, at least...
The product was distributed in the U.S., Puerto Rico and Japan between September 2025 and February 2026.
the contaminated product was distributed for around half a year. DO. NOT. USE. IT. having these microbes around you is really fucking bad. you know how paenibacillus phoenicis survives 70% isopropyl alcohol? that means it, like many other germs, survives hand sanitizers and a bunch of other cleaning products.
you are better off washing your hands! make sure you wash your hands thoroughly, under running water with soap, and then dry them thoroughly. wet hands pick up more germs. according to the US CDC, around 30% of diarrhea cases and 20% of respiratory infections are preventable with correct hand washing.
even if germs cannot be killed, they can usually be washed down the drain.
Affected Webcol™ Alcohol Prep Pad lots include the following lot numbers: See Attached Table

attached table is a PDF!
this 5 step action plan is actually six steps in the march 2nd vendor mail about this. those six steps were REVIEW, COMMUNICATE, SEGREGATE, DISSEMINATE, DISTRIBUTORS, and RETURN. why are there two different versions of this? was someone embarrassed because DISTRIBUTORS is not a verb? why were they embarrassed about COMMUNICATE? this is really minor but what in the corporate bullshit, cardinal health should really have clearer and more consistent communication for life-threatening recalls.
this recall actually began march 2nd 2026, a public company announcement was made march 19th, and a public FDA recall announcement only happened yesterday, march 20th. why did it take three weeks. was it the verb thing
also missing from this FDA-version recall announcement that was present in the march 2nd version:

basically, refunds are available, but the process seems to be a pain in the ass! this whole recall seems to be a pain in the ass!
on the cardinal health website there is no major apparent acknowledgement of the recall on the front page, and the search gave me (rune) an error when I searched "recall". hey that fucking sucks! you should have a page that pops up when you search recall! but they do have a recall notice up, on the newsroom website and not the main website. this recall announcement is not easy or intuitive for a first time visitor or prospective customer to find on the manufacturer's main website, which is shitty!
important to note: alcohol prep pads are frequently purchased by individuals and not just major medical facilities. I (rune!) am holding a curad alcohol prep pad right now. they frequently get bought and resold in bulk from unofficial vendors, or just sold in normal stores. there is no way in hell everyone with these alcohol wipes knows about this recall, especially considering over three hundred fucking lots are being recalled here. but most medical facilities should have been contacted by now.
Consumers should contact their physician or healthcare provider if they have experienced any problems that may be related to taking or using this drug product.
and if you think you have an infection, consider whether or not you might want to be in the emergency room. because bacteria in the blood can kill you really bad.
Adverse reactions or quality problems experienced with the use of this product may be reported to the FDA's MedWatch Adverse Event Reporting program either online, by regular mail or by fax.
Complete and submit the report Online: www.fda.gov/medwatch/report.htm
Regular Mail or Fax: Download form www.fda.gov/MedWatch/getforms.htm or call 1-800-332-1088 to request a reporting form, then complete and return to the address on the pre-addressed form, or submit by fax to 1-800-FDA-0178
REPORT ADVERSE EVENTS!!! SAVE LIVES!!!
not listed in this recall announcement, for whatever reason, is the comment that no harm as a result of this contamination has been (directly?) reported yet.
Cardinal Health has not received any reports of harm or adverse events.
hooray! except this ultimately means very little because infections from medical facilities are so fucking common that very few would get investigated to the point of being able to identify an alcohol wipe as the source of an infection. if a patient asked "could the alcohol wipe be contaminated" they would probably get laughed at which is just pissing me (rune!!) off. getting mad. end of example
and possibly its lack of inclusion in the FDA recall announcement means adverse events have been reported since march 2nd. basically, chances are, yeah. someone was probably already harmed from this.
What is the issue?
The Webcol™ Large Alcohol Prep Pads have been deemed non-sterile following the discovery of a contaminant (Paenibacillus phoenicis) during a routine sterilization dose audit.
judging by the lots dating back to september 2025, it seems to be a ~6 month routine audit. might want to make it every three months...
What is the risk to health?
The contaminant has a low probability of detection and may pose a potential infection risk to vulnerable groups such as critically ill, immunocompromised, neonatal, and pediatric patients.
...because apparently this contaminant fucking sucks to find despite being deadly. or maybe they mean that it took this long for this contaminant to be detected using their own audits. maybe they should do better audits. nowhere in these recall communications is actually a promise to do better and enact any significant change. they had three weeks to come up with something better than:
What other actions is Cardinal Health taking?
Cardinal Health is currently notifying customers and will complete appropriate corrective actions to recover impacted products.
have you considered having less contamination too? more frequent audits? better testing? or even telling your customers how the alcohol prep pads got contaminated to begin with, and what is being done to prevent it from happening again? nah?? alright
and finally, the list of recalled lots! here we go. LONG LIST BELOW THE CUT!

if that copy pasted correctly it should be 394 lines. 394 lots being recalled. that sure is a lot
no i mean addiction. gambling addiction and self harm addiction included. we don't have to avoid these words like they're a bad thing. the stigma will exist regardless, so if someone says "what, you support addicts?" instead of saying "i support people struggling with substance abuse" you can just say "yes." no caveats, yeah i support addicts. i support homeless people. i support homeless addicts. it's fine
As of yesterday, Florida is no longer allowing interpreters of any kind when someone takes a driver’s test (this includes the written portion and the driving portion).
They’re requiring all tests be taken in English.
Not only is this complete discrimination against people who read and speak spoken languages that are not English, it’s also complete discrimination against people whose primary language are neither spoken nor English. Like people who communicate mostly or entirely in American Sign Language.
Not allowing interpreters during the written portion is still awful in the context of people who use ASL because not every deaf person’s first language is English. ASL and English are not the same language at all and ASL is not a written language. Just because someone uses ASL does not automatically mean they can read English.
This new rule or whatever makes it more likely disabled people can’t drive and won’t be in public. This independence being taken away also means we [disabled people] have to rely on other people for things we need. This can lead to disabled people being abused. It also makes it a lot more difficult for disabled people to leave if we are being abused.
And, yes, this is illegal. A lot of discriminaion that’s technically illegal - and has been for decades - happens all the time.
All in all, this harms a lot of people and should be talked about and taken seriously.
Still on a windows computer? does it run like crap?
Well Ubuntu is a wonderful and free OS you can get to replace it, but in the mean time I usually recommend these two edits to make windows run faster.
ADJUST ADVANCED SETTINGS
search for 'View Advanced System Settings' and click on the control panel view that pops up.
You should be in the Advanced tab, click on the Settings... button.
You will probably see all these turned on. TURN THEM OFF! You will probably want 'Smooth edges of screen fonts' to stay on since the font gets very pixelated without it. I also leave 'Show thumbnails instead of icons' since I personally like seeing image previews in File Explorer.
Your windows will feel much different after turning lots of these off, come back here and make adjustments if needed.
Ok second edit
DISABLE WEB SEARCH
This requires what is know as a RegEdit. These directions will only add one Key:Value DWORD pair via the PowerShell terminal. But do know, deleting the wrong thing in Registry Editor can break your computer. We will be creating this Key with PowerShell so it will not delete anything in your Registry but if it makes you uncomfortable then please skip this step!
Windows added a bunch of behind the scene web searches all over the place, when you click the start button, Web Search! when you open file explorer, Web Search! What is it web searching? who knows! but it lags anything that interacts with it, which is everything, Thanks Windows.
You can turn this web search off by making this registry edit.
This Set-ItemProperty command will create a new Key Item at location "HKCU:\SOFTWARE\Microsoft\Windows\CurrentVersion\Search" inside our Registry, it will call this key "BingSearchEnabled" and set its value to 0 (the zero value turns it off).
Reboot your computer and the new Key will load into your windows and Look At That no more unnecessary web searching happening in the background.
Now that you have taken your first steps to becoming a GREAT HACKER, making the next step to a Linux OS will be less scary!
Hello, everyone! I just wanted to make a post to update everyone on what is going on with the critically endangered pygmy raccoon we found dying at a beach club. I am going to try to be as transparent as possible, however, please understand that due to federal and ethical regulations, there are some things I cannot tell you (right now). If I say something like "let me cook," I need you to trust me and let me cook.
First off, we raised about $1,000 US dollars.
When I say that tumblr dot com literally saved the life of a critically endangered pygmy raccoon, I mean it. My nonprofit credit card won't let me pull money out of the ATM, and I did not have enough cash to use my personal card, so without y'all's help, that raccoon would have gone the way of the two others that died before it.
I am going to do my best to send everyone a thank you note, but I apologize in advance if that takes forever.
Here is what the money went to:
Making sure the vet had the federal permits to provide care to a critically endangered species
Electrolytes and medication
Blood work, urinalysis, fecal samples
The follow-up checkup
ATM fees (Unfortunately, but they are cheaper than fees to transfer money to Mexico other ways. It's insane)
Transportation costs
Food for the raccoon
The second follow-up checkup that is happening today and any subsequent testing (I will keep y'all updated.)
Now, to address some other important things y'all will probably want to know:
Q: Is this the raccoon that tried to fuck his mom?
A: No. I thought it was initially from the photos I was sent. It's really hard to tell what they really look like when they are that dehydrated. It may possibly be a female? I am gonna be so real with you, I know a lot of things, but I do not understand Spanish gendered language (nor does my translating headphones or google translate) and I haven't gotten that close to the raccoon to check. But it is one of that particular mama's babies from her youngest litter.
Q: Is the raccoon going to die?
A: I honestly do not know. I hope not. They are certainly improving. They have recently started calling out in the night for their mother, which I think is a sign that they know where they are now (which is away from home) and they want to get back to their family.
Q: Do you know what happened?
A: It is a combination between malnutrition and poison.
Q: Do you know who poisoned the raccoons and why?
A: mmmmmmmmm. Yes. Let me (us) cook though, please. It's some onceler type shit is all I can say right now.
Q: Do you need further donations?
A: Right now, I have enough funds to cover what needs to be done up until today. I do not know what will be needed in the future as raccoons do seem to keep getting sick and dying. If you would like to donate for future pygmy raccoon medical care, you are welcome to, now have a specific section in my nonprofit/research budget for medical care on the island, so the money would only be used for that (but maybe not for the same raccoon.)
If you are interested in supporting medical care for pygmy raccoons, donations can be made here (all are tax deductible. If you make a really big donation and want a receipt with my EIN, it me up)

Q: Can you post photos of the raccoon?
A: Yes. The read more isn't working here because this post is so long but
WARNING. While there's no blood and guts or anything, the raccoon in the photos are clearly sick. Do not keep scrolling if you do not wish to see.
The sick raccoon in question is one of these two. They are from Mama's youngest litter. Remember when I said I discovered something very exciting and important? These are who were doing that thing I discovered. Even though I can't really tell them apart, they are both so smart and wonderful and I really hope that one of them doesn't lose a twin.
Here is the raccoon the day it was rescued:
And here they are from a few nights ago when they were crying out for their family:
when a child with chronic or terminal illness or a disability/their sibling is well informed about the condition strangers love to say "no child should have to know that 😢" yeah well i think the world would be significantly better if more children knew about that actually. teach your healthy kids about illness teach your abled kids about disability Please !
and people will say this about the stupidest shit of all time. a diabetic child is like "this is my glucose monitor! these are my ketone test strips!" and people are aghast "no baby should have to know about this!!!!" okay so youd rather his mom just poked and tested him and injected insulin and collected his urine without explanation? you genuinely would prefer this child live in fear and ignorance about the daily routines of his life? because like no amount of pouty faces and prayers and condescending instagram comments are going to remove the illness from the child's life so our options are being informed about our bodies or being confused/frightened by them.
Almost every day service facility I’ve ever attended has said we can’t swear.
Like be real, I’m a grown ass fully adult man, I don’t generally swear irl because I don’t like to but I don’t think it’s necessary for the staff to tell people their age or older that they aren’t allowed to say fuck. We’re all adults or at MINIMUM I think the youngest person who attends is 17 and in college.
The sooner y'all realize that higher support needs disabled people are humans and chill people that you can form genuine meaningful relationships with the better. Like you know you can talk to them like normal people, right?
I'll go ahead and say it - even if you can't talk to them, even if they don't understand a word you're saying, even if they have no way of comprehending any form of language...you can still form meaningful relationships with them.
