Is there rly any softer scene than when o'malley sees duchess and falls in love with her at first sight in the aristocats, complimenting her at every turn and climbing into a cherry blossom tree to make the flower petals snow gracefully down on her? How dreamy 🥀💕
This Is Love 😍😍
Not to mention when he found she had kids, he was thrown for a second, then proceeded to not only still help her, but dote on them too.
“Not all men” you’re right, Abraham DeLacey Giuseppe Casey Thomas O’Malley would never.
Do I think, since he’s a stray, everyone of those names was a different name from a different person who would leave food out for him or take care of him in general? Like one lady called him Abraham and another little boy called him delacey and so on?
I love the idea of that and will be making that assumption for the rest of my life

Spotify Premium ad: “Imagine playing music without interruptions! Infinite skipping! Replay the song you want! And even do it offline? No ads! Whatever songs you want! For a small monthly payme-” Me: *nods, turns off Spotify and turns on my MP3 player and does all the things they offer, but for free and with songs they don’t even have*
For those of you who might not know how to do any of this:
To convert CD audio into mp3s, you just follow the steps here
To play mp3 files, you download an mp3 player like Winamp here and away you go
On mobile? There are plenty of free mp3 players for your phone available, too, so check them out
You don’t need to be tethered to an online streaming service for your music. Be free.
You can also rip audio files from youtube and find files all over the internet. It is far easier to come across great and lesser known music if you dont limit yourself to spotify.
Here’s a tutorial on how to get the music and playlists you like with unlimited listening/downloads. This is a free way to do it that I believe is a balance between cost, time, and pros & cons:
If you have the CDs, it will be easier to rip them. Most music managers include this feature and you will have all the track information loaded into the file. There are also pirate websites where you can download entire albums with their metadata attached, but there could be risks associated (I would worry more about viruses than lawsuits these days, though). Deciding a method for acquiring music is a balance of the required time, the alternative costs, and other pros/cons like supporting the artist or taking the risk of pirating sites.
1. Find the song on Youtube. YT has pretty much every song at this point, usually in comparable quality to what you would get on a streaming service.
This is great if you already listen to music on Youtube, but there might be a better method for going direct from Spotify, though this will work either way. The main downside to this method is that official music (and even lyric) videos sometimes have non-music portions so you might have to listen to the whole thing to be sure. SponsorBlock will highlight non-music sections for most artists, so if you have it installed you can tell at a glance if this is the case.
2. Download the audio from YT. There are many ways to download YT videos completely for free. It’s probably against the YT terms of service, but you’re not going to get sued.
I like y2mate for downloading YT videos (or their audio in mp3s) because it’s a simple, ad-free website. You just paste in the URL for the video you want to download. Sometimes it’s laggy and you have to come back later, but usually after a few moments the video loads, you select your download quality (the highest), and then save it. For easy file management, download everything in folders for the Artist, and then sub folders for the Album, and name the MP3 file the “song name”.mp3.
3. Upload to your music player/manager of choice. The file will currently be lacking metadata (Artist, Album, track number, etc) and will be added to the library as a song with its title set as the file name minus its .mp3 extension. Various music players/managers have different ways to add metadata (usually accessed by right-clicking the song) with varying ease.
iTunes is free and and logical if you have an iPhone, but limited in its capabilities. I do all my management/listening in MusicBee (free for Windows) because of its playlist and management features, as well as having a very customizable interface. You can set it to scan the folders you download music to so it will automatically load things into your library, or do so manually. Once loaded into MusicBee, you can batch edit an entire album’s metadata at once easily with Auto-Tagging. Auto-Tag can fetch the details from the internet and fill in artist, tracks, album artwork, etc and save that information to the mp3 file. You can edit this manually if needed too. Drag and drop the edited songs to any other player you may want to add them to so it can find the files.
4. Now you can use the player of your choice to listen endlessly, form playlists, etc. Some free music managers also have music discovery/recommendation features for expanding your collection.
MusicBee allows you to create playlists with folders, subfolders, and dynamic features. You can export these playlists for cross-platform play on other computers with MusicBee installed. I think the playlist features on MusicBee are better than what is on streaming services. You can create an auto-playlist of your recently-added music so you can easily find the ones that are new and might need need editing, adding to other playlists, etc. I have custom tags for music by LGBT artists, sapphic love songs, and more. I also drag-and-drop these playlists directly into iTunes so I have them on my phone too (you can do this to make a new playlist or just edit/add songs to a current one).
There are many music managers/players, including cross-platform ones with streaming, though they usually have fees for that feature. Because you aren’t streaming the music and rather storing it, you’ll need space on each device you want to play the music on, but memory is cheap these days.
You can buy a 2TB external harddrive for less than Spotify or Youtube Premium costs for six months, so having to store the songs isn’t much of a downside. Plus, the song will never “leave the service”, you can listen to it offline, etc.
I do encourage people to pay for art, especially from small, independent artists. You have to pay for art if you want to keep it alive, but there is debate over if streaming services are really “paying the artist”. Alternatives include buying and ripping CDs, purchasing merch or tour tickets (where artists make a lot of their money), etc to support them with something other than streaming views.
ID. a tweet from Don Hughes @/getfiscal dated Feb 18 21. it reads, “Started imagining paying for Spotify for the next thirty or so years and got a bit dizzy, cancelled a bunch of subscriptions, installed Linux on my computer and then pulled out my old CDs to rip. Going caveman.” End ID.
Seconding MusicBee! Also, you can use a library subscription to access Freegal, which allows (depending on your library system) up to five free downloads a week. Completely free, actually legal, yours to keep, no DRM or any crap like that.
For indie producers, always check if they have something like Bandcamp! Bandcamp lets you download as well, and has significantly higher royalties going to the actual artists (Spotify pays them… very little).
Jsyk, winamp rips cds natively. You can set whatever bitrate you like. Been doing *that* since last century.
It’s that time again:

Don’t forget that you can borrow CD’s from your local library! Borrow, rip, repeat ad infinitum!
for playing mp3s on android - musicolet, very customizable, bajillions of options, and you can edit the metadata in-app including album art and lyric files
on firefox - there’s a youtube video downloader add-on that lets you do it from page, though only as video - but most video players have an export-as-audio option

Babs: That’s a bad word.
Dick: No? It’s my name?
Babs: Daddy says it’s naughty to say bad words.
Dick: But it’s my name?
Babs: I’m gonna go ask daddy *runs up to commissioner Gordon* daddy, that kid says his name is Dick, can I say it when I’m talking about him?
Dick: *the son of immigrant parents, grown up speaking an amalgamation of Easter European dialects and was names after Dick Tracy still confused as to why his name is a bad word*

Hey there guys. It’s me, in 2022, commenting on this post from 2016. There’s been a lot of people on this site lately being like “oooh no don’t make viral uwu I’m so pathetic, little, and defenseless and my poor notifications can’t handle 10k reblogs” well first of all ALL of us are pathetic, little, and defenseless and secondly none of our notifications can handle 10k reblogs and thirdly I’m not a coward and I think this should have a million notes. Not because of its own merit as a post, I just think it’d be funny if when I turn 30 this year and I reflect on the greatest accomplishments of my life thus far, I have to at least consider putting “famous tumblr popcorn post” on the list
Hey there guys. It’s me, in 2023, in May specifically, I’m 30 and for the record it rules, I had a lil aging crisis and now I’m past that and I’m just like goddamn it is great being in my thirties and I had a wonderful birthday NO THANKS TO YOU GUYS
actually, much thanks to you guys. Some of you were inspiringly crazy about this post. Frankly you worked harder for this than I did, and your efforts were touching and inspiring and funny and yet we STILL FAILED. GUYS WE GOTTA PUT OUR EYES BACK ON THE BALL. We have ehhh about six months before I turn the big three-one, which is actually the most important birthday because now you’re in your thirties For Real, and I personally can’t think of a better way to ring in my 31st year of life than by trying and failing to do something that I was hoping to knock out in my twenties.
Good luck, kiddo

“Boromir teaches him that there is something inherently valuable about man, and brave, and worthwhile, and that in spite of whatever doubts Aragorn has about himself and about the value of man, as a race in itself, apart from the others, there’s great strength in men. Tumblr what have you done?!
And while I’m on this topic, HTTYD 3 could have solved the whole “Why Would Toothless and Hiccup Split Up?” problem AND killed the “How Can awe Insert a Love Interest/Cool New Dragon Species?” problem with the same stone…in a MUCH better way than they did.
They spent so much time on Hiccup deciding he had to leave Berk and find the Hidden World, but to be honest with you, that’s just exactly what his mother did in the second movie and she was proven to be wrong for running from her problems and abandoning the people she cared about. So they should’ve cut aside the whole “convince the Berkians to leave, find out the Hidden World is real, discover who Grimmel is and why he’s a threat” plot thread. Or at least made it much less significant.
So you know what, INSTEAD, I’ve figured out a totally different plot.
Let’s have Grimmel be a nerd, like Hiccup, and an alchemist instead of a blacksmith, so we can keep the cool Dark!Hiccup trope. And sure, he hates Night Furies, but actually he hates all dragons. (And I don’t really care if he was the one who killed all the other Night Furies, that’s unimportant to me.)
And instead of saying “‘When I found a Night Fury in the woods, I killed it because I hate dragons and there can never be peace between dragons and man—oh, those? Those are my pet Death Gripper dragons. I mean, slaves. Not pets. Slaves. I hate dragons, really, guys.” And being TOTALLY CONTRADICTORY—
INSTEAD of all that
Let’s make Grimmel really, truly, have ZERO pet dragons. Instead, he’s fully leaning into the idea of what Hiccup would be if he had killed Toothless and become chief of Dragon-Hating Berk in the first film—Grimmel had a tribe of human warriors who were his followers, and they were at war with dragons, and Grimmel took that war to the next level by using his alchemy. He led his tribe to wipe out tons of dragon species in his part of the world. (His part of the world is far removed from the Barbaric Archipelago—that’s why Light Furies have never been spotted, and the effects of Grimmel’s warfare haven’t had any impact on the Barbaric Archipelago’s dragons yet.)
Grimmel’s people wage this war with Viking-time chemical/poison warfare, not axes and clubs like Berk, and they’re largely successful (just like a Dark!Hiccup might have made his own tribe if not for Toothless. But their Great White Whale, the last surviving dragons in that area, are the Furies as a species (Night and Light.) The Fury Flock outmaneuvered them and nearly wiped out all of Grimmel’s people, and most of his homeland near the end of this war.
Now Grimmel just travels with a tiny knot of expert dragon-killers, and he’s the smallest and weakest of them, but he’s the most deadly. Because he’s figured out how to make a dragon-killing virus. Unfortunately, he has no way to spread the virus to the rest of the Light Fury “flock” because—plain and simple—they can’t keep up with the Light Furies. Because Grimmel and his other poisoners don’t have dragons to ride on, because they would never work with the hated dragons in any way. That’s their big weakness, and the heroes’ strength. So they’re stuck in rudimentary transportation—maybe like, blimps or something, a-la-Fire Nation. Still too slow. But in his futile efforts to keep up with the Light Fury Flock and get revenge, he finally reaches the Barbaric Archipelago. A land where dragons are still plentiful. A land where he hears of the great Hiccup Haddock and the way that Vikings are living on the backs of dragons in peace. Suddenly, Grimmel hates Hiccup and Berk and realizes that this is a new ideological threat to his whole worldview, and he just can’t stand that someone would befriend the monsters that wiped out his land, the monsters he’s been fighting his whole life. So he enters our heroes’ lives and starts trouble.
Now let’s talk about The Light Fury!
Both the individual Toothless loves, and the whole species, who are much more prominent as an entire group in this reimagined movie I’m doing. We’re not going to have her be the bait Grimmel uses to lure Toothless. Oh no. We’re going to have her be the totally natural element that introduces our heroes to the Hidden World, and also unintentionally causes the downfall of the Dragon-Viking lifestyle.
Here’s how this goes:
Light Furies and Night Furies are a species that are closely tied together, still. Typically, when Night Furies we’re plentiful, the two species would herd together, the same way some herds and flocks in the real world practice mutualistic relationships. The main thing for our story is, Furies are migratory.
They normally belong in the Hidden World—which, sure, can only be accessed through a big boat-devouring hole in the ocean, why not. All dragons can get there because all dragons can fly, technically, but most of the modern generation of dragon species do not know that the Hidden World exist.
But every fifty years or so, Furies leave the Hidden World and migrate to Grimmel’s part of the world to hunt. Usually, the flock of Furies is comprised of young dragons who have never made the trip before, because the Hidden a world is where they hatch. This means it is up to the elderly dragons, just like matriarch elephants, to lead the way back to the Hidden World when the time comes. However, it is only Night Furies, due to a special kind of echolocation they possess which Light Furies don’t have, who can get back to the Hidden World. (can you see where this is going)
Basically, what I’m saying is, Night Furies can echo locate to the Hidden World, but they can’t camouflage (at all. No new superpower for you, Toothless.) And Light Furies CAN camouflage, which saved them from being completely wiped out in the war with Grimmel’s people, but they can’t echolocate back to the Hidden World, nor are there any dragons in the flock old enough to remember the way.
When our heroes encounter Light Furies, it is because Toothless and Hiccup discover them very naturally by their usual habit of exploration. The Light Furies are passing through Berk’s area on their way back to the Hidden World, fleeing Grimmel’s slow pursuit at the same time. They only have one, old, grizzled Night Fury leading them. So I guess, yeah, Grimmel’s folks did kill all the other Night Furies—but not, like, more than they killed other dragons or anything.
Our Love Interest Fury and her herd are very wild and elusive, and especially afraid of humans. But Toothless and Hiccup are instantly and permanently fascinated by the flock, and don’t give up until they have several close encounters with them. You could have:
- A scene where Old Night Fury gets all aggressive and tries to chase Toothless and Hiccup off, but when they won’t go and Toothless is clearly outmaneuvering Old Night Fury, suddenly the air around them comes alive with camouflaged Light Furies coming to their leader’s defense. Our heroes have to flee, but they’re totally mystified and eager to come back for more.
- A scene where Toothless catches up to the Love Interest Fury, but only because she appears to be injured: ever since the flock’s last encounter with Grimmel when he got close to catching up with them, she’s been flying with a damaged wing or something. Hiccup can’t get close enough without Love Interest Fury vaporizing him at first, but with Toothless’ help, he manages to remove a strange arrow with some kind of chemical crusting it from her wound.
- A scene where Toothless and Hiccup try to track the Old Fury, because he’s the last-ever of Toothless’ full kind, and manage to spy on him long enough to see that he’s tipping his head and wiggling his ears when the flock moves from island to island in the Barbaric Archipelago. They find out he can use echolocation, and he seems to be the leader, is what I’m saying.
- A scene where Hiccup and the other Riders are finally allowed to get near to some of the younger Furies while the Old one is not around, thanks to Love Interest Fury, and amidst funny/cute dragon gags, Hiccup notices that many of them are injured or bear scars from human tools. He sort of ominously realizes that “Someone’s been hunting you guys.” And then somebody else says, all freaked out and intimidated, “but…they’re Furies. What kind of people could hunt Furies?”
Grimmel catches up.
(This can be because Hiccup’s efforts to study and tame the traveling herd of Light Furies, or at least get close to the one other grizzled old Night Fury they’ve found, slowed the migration process down in some way. I don’t know, consequences.)
So, Grimmel catches up. He slays the Old Night Fury, introduces himself as a threat, and then is promptly fought and defeated by Hiccup and the gang because they’re vastly superior because they’ve got their dragons. However, even though he is neutralized as an immediate threat, Grimmel manages to hit some of the Berk dragons with those dragon virus darts we were talking about earlier.
They’re sick, and definitely dying, and there doesn’t appear to be a cure. On top of that, now the Light Furies have no echo-locating leader to take them to the safe haven which is their home in the Hidden World.
However, whether they reform Grimmel as their prisoner over time, or manage to discover it using adventurousness and ingenuity, they find out that the virus isn’t affecting the Light Fury herd. Also, Toothless and Hiccup realize, after their studies and adventures with the grizzled Old Night fury before his murder, that Light Furies need a replacement Night Fury to find their way back to the Hidden World.
Basically what I’m saying is, the cure for the virus that is killing all the Gronkles and Nadders and Razorwhips is in the Hidden World; it is a part of the Furies’ natural diet. It’s like a plant, or a bioluminescent algae or something. And the Light Furies are fine, for now, because that plant has been a part of their biology for so many generations.
But the fact is, now ALL of the dragons, not just the Light Furies, need to get back to the Hidden World and eat the plant to survive. And Toothless is the only one who can get them there. But this will mean, eventually, that Toothless has to leave the Viking World and go on to be the leader of the migratory Light Fury herd for the rest of his and Hiccup’s natural lives. And in the mean time, for more conflict and urgency, Grimmel’s small band of dragon hunters who were defeated but not captured like their leader, are mounting an assault, trying to get Grimmel back or kill as many Berkians as possible before the dragons can escape to the Hidden World—whichever comes first. For added excitement, or whatever.
There. It’s bare bones, and maybe I wouldn’t pace it all exactly like that—I could move some plot points around or swap their places—and it still doesn’t quite do away with the fact that Hiccup could just live in the Hidden World WITH Toothless and the dragons, and bring the Berkians along with him, so they don’t need to be separated…but honestly, having a force-of-nature problem like a virus force the dragons underground and making the Night Fury connection with Light Furies more interesting is a huge step in the right direction. That’s all I’m saying. And this is just what I’d do if I were forced to come up with a reason for Hiccup and Toothless to separate. Which is a dumb premise in the first place, for this franchise.
Plus, MAKE a villain who is interesting and threatening for as long as the plot needs him to be, WITHOUT making him totally contradictory. Nobody believes that the original Grimmel is a powerful contrast to Hiccup because he says he doesn’t believe humans and dragons can coexist…WHILE ACTIVELY USING DRAGONS for his evil plot, as henchmen. I mean, the movie even shows him being unable to communicate with his human coconspirators, but able to get complete obedience and assistance from his pet Death Grippers. He’s not even mean to them, either. I mean, LET HICCUP AND TOOTHLESS’ WAY OF LIFE WIN. Let the villain’s flat-out refusal to adapt to something good be a weakness that causes him to lose.
And make the Light Fury more interesting than “It’s Toothless, But Whiter, Prettier, Sleeker, More Mysterious, and More Wild.” (WHY is she “more wild?” Because you said she is? Because you didn’t let any of the human characters give her a name? Because she doesn’t wear a saddle? None of that makes her seem more wild—especially not when she’s actively making cooing sounds and catching Hiccup, and not when she’s perfectly comfortable camouflaging herself and slinking through human campgrounds or revealing herself to an entire migrating human flock just to toss a human from a saddle, and not when she’s in love with a clearly-tame strangely-saddled pet.)
It ain’t perfect. But it’s at least more interesting. And if you have a bad premise like “Separate the Duo Whose Whole Story is About How They Stay Together,” interesting is your only fallback.
