Emergency Phone call from Reader at Wayne manor 

I just woke up this morning and wrote it down. Sometime you can't stop stories turning up.

Warning: mention of blood, injury and previous attempt violence against reader.

911 : This is 911 emergency, how can I help you?

Y/N: Hi, I need an ambulance sent to 1007 Mountain Drive, Crest Hill, Bristol Township, Gotham City, I have a deep sword cut to my arm, and need to be checking. Am bleeding, probably need stitches.

911: Ok, an ambulance has been dispatched to your address, please stay on the line with me. Is anyone else in the house with you?

Y/N: Yes, but they are all chasing the kid with the sword, not helping me. Tell the ambulance crew that I will go outside to them, they will not be in danger.

911: Ok, thank you for that information. Have you wrapped your arm up to stop the bleeding?

Y/N: Yes. I have a towel wrapped around my arm and applying pressure.

911: Are you in any further danger?

Y/N: Not currently. In the future, (nervous laughter) not sure. It's not like the kid was yelling he should be the only blood child and he needs to remove all rivals or something.

Y/N: Could you get someone to check on my well-being in a couple of days or in a week? And to actually physically meet me, not be put off with ‘I don't want any visitors’, like they have in the past.

Y/N: Is that possible? Could you make a note?

911: Oh, I assure you, I am making lots of notes. The ambulance crew have been informed that they are to physically meet you or call for backup if they are blocked.

Y/N: Thanks.

911: I have been informed that your address is the Wayne manor.

Y/N: Yes, I am a Wayne kid, does that matter?

911: Is Bruce Wayne not supporting you? How old are you?

Y/N: 15. If you call support: ‘you need to deal with this problem yourself,’ ‘you are the older one’, ‘the youngest needs everyone at the moment’ and my most favourite one ‘I am sure you understand, you are the dependable one', then yes, he supports me.

Y/N: I am dealing with the problem, that is why I am ringing you for help.

Y/N: Anyway, my father is currently busy trying to stop his youngest child from chopping me up to become the only biological child.

Y/N: I mean, he is trying to get a sword off a 10 year old child, who is waving it around randomly, pretending to be a ninja.

911: I don't think that is any better.

Y/N: you have no idea.

Y/N: the ambulance is here now. I will go outside to them, thanks for listening to me. It's rare that any one does.

911: You're welcome.

Since Alfred and Bruce failed to gain trust on their attempts, Tim decides to have a go.

(Look, how about we stop freaking Y/N out, I’ll give them a couple of days, while I do some research. Then contact them to see if they will physically meet me in Coast City, hopefully to answer any questions they have and maybe talk them into visiting us. Okay? Great.)

A couple of days later

Texts.

Unknown number: Hi Y/N, this is Timothy Drake-Wayne. I was wondering if you would agree to meeting me at any coffee shop in Coast City, please bring your friends with you for support.

Tim Drake adopted Wayne son: I suspect you have questions, I am offering to answer all that I can.

Y/N : ok, meet me next week on Thursday at Drink-Up Cafe on corner of Fraser Street and Merrell Street at 10am

Tim Drake adopted Wayne son: Great, will see you then.

The next Thursday, you walked into the cafe with your two best friends.

Mark, a born and bred Gotham who you swear knows everything, looked around and nodded towards a corner table. “There he is, that is Timothy Drake-Wayne.

You looked over at the young man who was wearing a cap. “What if this is a big joke from someone, and he has never heard of me?”

“He is very polite, he will just tell you that you are mistaken.”

“Fine,” you walked over towards him.

Tim looked up, saw you and smiled. “Y/N, you are here. Please take a seat, all of you.” He looked over at your two friends with an inquiring expression.

“This is Mark and Sue, my best friends.”

Mark looked around, “we should sit at the next table over. So you two can have privacy.”

You nodded, and after getting a drink, sat across from Tim.

You stared at him, then shrugged.

“I don't remember you at all, did we meet in my past?”

“Not when you were living in Wayne manor, we did when you visited, we were not close.” He paused and thought about it, “I don't think you were close to anyone there. But due Bruce’s reaction, if you stopped visiting, you found it easier to visit, then to point out you didn't see the point.”

“Reaction?”

“Bruce has a habit of believing that he is right all the time, that he has to be in control. When he thinks something isn't, he will partly panic until he thinks he is. You have completely thrown him, and now he wants to fix it, make you part of the family again.

“Does that mean he will start insisting on visiting me?

“Probably yes, he will also want to know everything about your life, and what went wrong in your past.”

“Isn't all that on the internet? I haven't hidden anything. What happened by the way, that your family didn't notice my accident?”

“At the time of your accident, Bruce went missing, suspected murdered.”

“I thought he was skiing in Switzerland according to the papers.”

“That was a cover up story. I went off to find him, Dick was holding on to company and looking after the family. When we checked on you months later, you were at university, and under a lot of pressure. We all assumed you didn't have the time to visit us over the last five years. We didn't want to add any more pressure to you.”

“Oh, I see.”

“Would you just agree to a single day visit for Christmas? Honestly it would be the best way for everyone to go back to just leaving you to live your life the rest of the year. Consider it an invitation from me directly, if you feel uncomfortable at any time, I swear I will put you in a taxi myself.”

“You believe one visit will get Bruce to back off? He is a bit pushy."

“As someone who often gets promises, then nothing changes. Yes.”

“Alright, just a day visit on Christmas Day. I’ll stay with Mark, he is visiting his family in Gotham for Christmas.

“Great, what does Mark do by the way?”

“He is a reporter,” you grinned at Tim's expression, “don't worry, he won't leak a story that might hurt me, anyone else who asks. I truly do not know anything about the Waynes, it's not even a lie.”

Tim sighed.

You answered, “Hello?”

Unknown deep voice spoke, “Hi Y/N. This is Bruce Wayne.”

“OK?”

Really? Don't think so.

Mr Wayne continued “I am ringing you because I have heard you have forgotten that you are part of the Wayne family.”

“Man, the spammers are going all out today.”

“Wait.”

“I don't know what you want from me, I am not pretty enough to be trafficked, and I don't have access to much money. But the idea that Bruce Wayne the billionaire of Gotham would just ring me. After no contact for at least five years, is not realistic at all. Try thinking up a better story.”

“Wait, there are reasons for the no contact.”

“Yeah, right.”

You hung up.

(Number blocked)

(Bruce back in Wayne manor, “Jason stop laughing at me, and give me one of your burner phones.”

“Really old man? They are going to block a lot of numbers at this rate. Here you go.”)

Unknown different number: Y/N this is Bruce Wayne, I understand you don't remember, but I assure you that you lived in Wayne Manor for eight months, before you chose to continue your education at a boarding school.

Bruce Wayne??: You also visited us once or twice a year on holidays.

Y/N: Ok, so I might believe you were the Gotham foster home I was living in for the eight months.

Y/N: But I am an adult now. You don't have to be a guardian to me anymore. Thank you for your previous help in fostering me. I don't see the point in visiting your home. It is obvious I am not part of your family.

Old foster man in Gotham: You are not a foster child, you are my biological child. You are part of the family. I am your father.

Y/N: Are you telling me that I am ‘a Wayne kid’ who is not found on the internet at all? Especially not found under the Wayne family information? Really?

Old foster man in Gotham: That was for safety reasons, we hid you.

Y/N: Really? Do you have any photos of me in the family?

Y/N: Was I encouraged to spend time with you?

Y/N: Do you have videos or photos of me with the rest of your family?

Old foster man in Gotham: Sorry, we don't, I was busy, there were a lot of important issues that turned up. You were not around much.

Y/N : I don't need your excuses. I just don't consider you my father or dad. You were a guardian of a foster child who has grown up. You don't need to waste any more time or attention on me.

Old Foster man who thinks he is my father: It would not be wasted, but I understand why you think that. Would you consider visiting us for Christmas?

Y/N: I'll think about it.

After receiving your diploma from the graduation ceremony from the University, you went out celebrating with your friends.

The next day, you started packing to leave. Your part time job, as an architect, researcher and developer, for strengthening buildings to decrease damage in all crises, will become a full time job after Christmas.

Just a month away.

Your best friend has invited you to her family's Christmas party, and to stay with her until you get into a new flat. Since you have no living family, you accepted.

At least no family as far as you know.

You were in a car accident five years ago. Lost your memory.

Your friends turned up when a request went out asking if any one knew a J. Doe. No family member did.

Your phone held photos of your friends, didn't have any family photos except for your late mother.

Your friends advised what past they remember you talked about.

You were born in Gotham.

You had spoken a lot about your mother who loved you a lot. She died due to cancer.

You lived in a foster home in Gotham for around eight months, you didn't speak much about that time, just you felt lonely there, no one seemed to like you, or gave you any attention.

You were then sent to boarding school in Coast City, until you were eighteen. You enjoyed it.

Then you had the accident.

You looked up emails, texts and looked on Google to work out your past further. Since you had already left the school, they had removed your past records so were unable to help either. You found out that you had visited Gotham once or twice a year, what did you do there? Unsure. Maybe shopped?

You have a trust fund, no current trustees, so can't ask questions there.

You had decided further information is not necessary and had gone off to university in Coast City with your friends.

In the middle of packing, your phone received a text from an unknown number

Unknown: ‘Y/N, congratulations on receiving your diploma. Will you be visiting your family this year for Christmas?’

Huh?

Y/N : Thanks, who is this? I don't have your number in my phone.

Unknown: It’s Alfred, Y/N.

Y/N: Sorry, you have the wrong number, I don't know you. I have plans for Christmas, thanks.

Alfred: Y/N Wayne, that is not funny. If you are unwilling to spend the whole time with your family, I understand but could you just visit for a day?

Y/N : Look, I know I lost my memory due to a car accident, but I do know that I have no living family as far as I can tell. No records, no photos, no one contacting me in the past five years.

Y/N : I don't know how you know my first name, but Wayne is not my last name. I am not sure why you are texting me. But this is creepy.

Y/N : please don't contact me again.

(Number blocked)

Then watched with interest, their horrified responses about their forgotten sibling forgetting them. He found it entertaining.

Somehow he's a registered voter now. Called the county clerk. Me: My cat got summoned for jury duty. Clerk: Is the name correct on the summons? Me: Yes, but he's a cat. Clerk: Is Felix Martinez a legal resident of this county? Me: He's a legal cat. Clerk: Sir, if the name matches our records, he needs to appear or file an exemption. Me: He can't file anything. He has paws. Clerk: You can file on his behalf. Me: Under what exemption? There's no box for "is a cat." Clerk: (pause) Check "unable to serve due to medical reasons." Me: What's the medical reason? Clerk: He's a cat. Me: That's not a medical condition. Clerk: It is if it prevents him from serving. Sent in the form. Got rejected two weeks later. "Insufficient documentation. Please provide medical professional's statement." Took the letter to my vet. Me: I need you to write that my cat can't do jury duty. Vet: Why is your cat summoned for jury duty? Me: Excellent question. No good answer. Vet: This is the weirdest request I've gotten. Me: Can you just write that he's medically unfit to serve? Vet: On what grounds? Me: He's a cat. Vet: (started typing) "Patient is unable to serve due to species-related limitations including inability to speak, read, or comprehend legal proceedings." Me: Perfect. Sent it in. Got another rejection. "Summons is mandatory. Failure to appear will result in contempt of court." My roommate thought this was hilarious. Roommate: Felix is going to jail. Me: This is serious. Roommate: Bring him to court. See what happens. Decided that was actually the only option left. Day of jury duty, put Felix in his carrier. Brought the entire paper trail of rejection letters. Checked in at the courthouse. Clerk: Name? Me: Felix Martinez. Clerk: (looked at the cat carrier) Is that Felix? Me: Yes. Clerk: (long stare) He's a cat. Me: I've been saying that for six weeks. Clerk: Why didn't you file an exemption? Me: I filed three. All rejected. Showed her the letters. She read through them, expression shifting from confusion to disbelief. Clerk: Someone rejected the veterinary documentation? Me: Twice. Clerk: (called her supervisor over) You need to see this. Supervisor read everything. Looked at Felix. Looked at me. Supervisor: How did a cat get registered to vote? Me: You tell me. Supervisor: This is a data error. Me: Took you six weeks to figure that out. They dismissed Felix immediately. Apologized for the inconvenience. Supervisor: We'll remove him from the voter registry. Me: Appreciate it. Supervisor: (pause) Out of curiosity, how would he have voted? Me: Probably whatever party supports universal treats. Got a formal apology letter a week later and a voter registration card. For me this time. Apparently I wasn't registered, but my cat was. Roommate: Felix committed voter fraud. Me: Felix committed nothing. He's innocent. Roommate: That's what they all say. Felix is sleeping on the jury summons now. Steph: They were the last people to notice.

Dick: Then he texted me.

Tim: I PANICKED.

Steph: He opened with "Hypothetically speaking, if someone accidentally confessed their love for you..."

Jason: "...what's the etiquette?"

Bart: I still laugh about that.

Jon: WHAT DID YOU REPLY?

Dick: I said, "Do you love him back?"

Jon: Logical.

Dick: Tim disappeared for another fifteen minutes.

Tim: I was thinking.

Steph: You were blue-screening.

Tim: Also true.

Kon: Meanwhile, I was digging my own grave.

Bart: Literally.

Jon: Literally?

Bart: We had shovels.

Kon: It felt appropriate.

Jon: This family is exhausting.

Damian: Correct.

Jon: So then what happened?

Tim: I went to the Kent's farm.

Kon: I assumed he was there to reject me.

Tim: Which is insane.

Kon: In hindsight, yes.

Tim: I knocked.

Kon: I opened the door.

Tim: Then I forgot every word I'd ever learned.

Steph: Canonically true.

Tim: I had a speech.

Jason: He absolutely did.

Tim: It was gone.

Kon: So we just stared at each other.

Jon: For how long?

Bart: Long enough that I left to get snacks.

Damian: In an embarrassing sort of way.

Tim: Eventually I said—

Jon: FINALLY.

Steph: Then Kon started crying.

Kon: A little.

Jason: Like a lot.

Kon: A reasonable amount!

Tim: Then I started crying.

Tim: It had been a stressful day.

Steph: They both cried.

Cass: Hugged.

Dick: Bart cried because they were crying.

Bart: It was emotional!

goodie two-shoes newly adopted jason todd is one of the funniest fucking things to come out of the batfamily fandom, actually. y’all remember that episode of the office us where dwight gets fired and the day afterwards micheal is all sad like ‘why haven’t the cleaning ladies arranged the toys in my office and watered my plants?’ and everybody tells him ‘no dwight used to do that.’ ? in the funniest way possible i want this to be bruce and jason.

jason todd who was such a sweet eager-to-please kid. he literally adored bruce for taking him in and letting him be robin, so he was doing literally anything he could think of to make his adoption worthwhile to bruce. being the model student at school, keeping his room immaculately clean, training as much as he could--the enthusiasm was genuinely baffling to bruce, who up until that point had only ever dealt with dick motherfucking grayson as a child under his care. at first he thought something was wrong with jason, or that he was covering something up. alfred had to pull him aside after a few months just like 'no he's genuinely this much of a people pleaser, master bruce. this isn't an act'. they had no idea what to do with this kid.

bruce doesn't even know most of the stuff jason does, he just assumes these little things Happen to Happen, and doesn't consider that it isn't alfred or that it might not be a coincidence. he counts himself lucky that jason is a well behaved kid and doesn't look too far into the details of how far that behaviour goes. so through the years after jason's death, bruce is genuinely just... fucking baffled.

"alfred, why did you stop making those little smoothie pots and leaving them in the fridge for my breakfasts? i really liked them, but you never have them anymore."

"...what smoothie pots?"

"the ones you always left in the door of the fridge for me, with the post-it notes telling me to have a good morning."

"i have never made you a smoothie pot, master bruce. i fear this was another of jason's little habits."

"...shit."

"indeed."

"so you don't know how to make these smoothie pots?"

like- i want jason to have literally been doing the most random fucking stuff you can think of. he was organising bruce's sock drawer, watering the plants in the downstairs bathroom, stapling together all the WE files in bruce's office so that bruce wouldn't misplace any of them. he was going above and beyond to make bruce's life as easy as possible in any way he could think of for YEARS, and he did it all so quietly that bruce never noticed until jason wasn't around anymore and all of a sudden his life was real fuckin' inconvenient and he had no idea why.

i just think it would be funny if red hood does a big identity reveal in front of all the bats and bruce just instantly bursts into tears in jason's arms weeping about how 'alfred let the fern die and they had to buy a new mop bucket because nobody knew where jason had stored it last' and jason is just. very confused holding a sobbing batman because he genuinely forgot that he used to do any of that stuff. meanwhile dick's in the background next to tim and he's just like 'so were you the one that organised the west attic? 'cause tim thinks it was the spirit of thomas wayne and we've been arguing about it for six months.'

bonus points if the league of assassins comes into it because at some point talia comes to visit damian and her and bruce get to chatting about jason, and bruce gets all teary and fond as he waxes poetic about how amazing and helpful jason was as a kid living around the manor, all the stuff he used to do, and then he turns to talia to ask what he was like living with her and she looks at him with the eyes of a long-dead veteran to tell him 'within his first two months he'd blown up two watchtowers, taught damian to call us all slurs in six different languages, and shaved a strip of my father's hair off while he was asleep. over his time with us he has personally contributed to the creation of ninety-three new rules around the compound, and the day before he left for gotham i personally watched him set fire to one of our helicopters.' and then there's just a really awkward period of silence because bruce has no idea what to say to that because HIS time with jason was fuckin great.

The next morning - reader/Ayna POV

Sleep, what is that?

You sighed and rolled over on your bed.

You got to bed four hours ago, after trying to run off extra energy by running around Gotham, then running home.

But sleep was not happening, you don't even feel tired.

Hmmm, what is a normal time to get up?

Looking over at the clock. 6:30am. Good enough.

You turned on the light, sat up and started updating information into your watch, your current symptoms, and what you took last night. Lecture or no lecture, you will not hide anything. It's safer for everyone including you.

Although last night was a little fuzzy, you remember drinking, having no effect on you and deciding to take a 1 hour power up pill that makes you intoxicated.

Was probably not the best idea, since Robin requested help for Red Hood after that, and your bright ideas while intoxicated, were very risky.

Not that you can remember much. Something about standing in a warehouse looking scary. Attack a person? Pulling apart Red Hood chains? Since when can you do any of that?

At least you heard the rest of the bats turn up, so you hid in the shadows outside the warehouse. Fear of Batman overrides everything else.

Maybe Robin can advise what happened last night?

You got up and pulled open the dark curtains. It is sunny outside! It is rarely sunny in Gotham. It must have been windy last night.

You got up, dressed quickly, put on 100% sunblock, then put on makeup. The joy of skin being so pale due to vampire virus, is that dark eyeshadow and lipstick comes up so well.

Myth - vampires sleep during the day and run around at night. Vampires go poof into ash in direct sunlight.

Truth - vampires go sleepy in the middle of the day, (bet you are going to crash today), but don't normally need to sleep. Haven't noticed any difference running around at night. Skin burns badly in direct sunlight, Do not go poof into ash.

You ran down to the kitchen, am starving. Your watch color is just going orange, so you need nutrients now.

Two brothers looked up from the table as you entered.

“Good morning you two, sleep well?” You said to them cheerfully.

Damian and Tim both smiled at you. Tim looks very sleepy. He had toast in front of him and a pot of coffee. Damian had tea and fruit.

“Why are you so awake at this hour? Didn't you come in late?” complained Tim, his head almost in his coffee cup.

“Not tired.” You answered shrugging, as you got a cup of tea. “Don't know why.”

“I wish I could bounce back like that.” sighed Tim, looking like he was going back to sleep at the table.

“Hmmm.” You said looking over at him, wondering for a second, if he would like to see if he could turn into a vampire.

“No.” cut in your older brother Damian, who was obviously mind reading you.

“Pity.”

“Hmm? Have I missed something?”

“No.” said Damian.

“Morning, Ayna” commented Alfred, handing you a plate of a cooked breakfast.

You stared with joy at the large plate of eggs, lamb sausages, bacon, blood pudding, mushrooms, hash browns and fried tomatoes.

“Alfred, have I mentioned you are wonderful? And that I love you?” You asked, sitting down, and starting to eat.

“Yes, regularly.” smiled Alfred at you.

Tim looked at your breakfast in horror, “How can you eat that this morning?”

You blink in surprise, “Easily, am hungry, was a busy night.”

“What were you doing? It's only Thursday.”

“A couple of classmates were celebrating an engagement last night at a pub, I joined them.” you answered, finishing eating your food.

“I want to speak to you about your timing of your drinking on a week day, also about the idea of learning more self defense.” Damian said, nodding at a bruise on your face.

“Ok, I will listen to you this afternoon, when I get back, Damian. Additional self defense is a good idea.” you advised as you put the empty dish into the dishwasher. “Have a class this morning. I have to go. Bye all.”

“Remember you have a meeting with your father at 4pm today.” Alfred called after you.

“Oh, that's right." you looked back into the room, “Damian, will you be around?”

“Of course, I will escort you to the meeting.”

“Thanks.” You called back as you left.

“She is still not comfortable being alone in Bruce's presence?” You could just hear Tim ask.

“No, she is not.” Damian answered.

Well? Would anyone blame you, if they all knew?

Bruce’s opinion on vampires, that they should be ‘removed’ for the good of the rest of humanity, was scary.

4pm back at the manor.

Damian walked with you towards your father's study. You feel horrible, like heading towards a school principal office to be ticked off.

“Relax,” advised Damian, “father will not shut the office door for the meeting. He knows you are not comfortable with being alone with him.”

Your heart increased in speed. “What if he has found out? And has been hiding that he knows, until he can isolate me?”

“I personally will open the study door if he shuts it, I will defend you in any case.”

“If he locks it?”

“I will break the door down, you are under the Justice League protection. I will call Superman if it is necessary.” he hissed. “You were not this nervous at the last meeting a month ago. What has happened since?”

“A young male vampire went feral in Gotham over two weeks ago.”

“I remember that, he turned up in Crime Alley where a pub threw feral strength nutrients pills at him. He chased the pills down to eat, and a Green Lantern collected him.”

“Those pills smell so great, that pub has a habit of leaving an open jar with those pills, he would have smelt them miles away when he went feral. But that is not the point,” You took a deep breath, “do you know what father said, after he heard what had happened?”

“No.”

“He said if he got to that boy first, he would have ensured that he wouldn't have come back to hurt them in the future. Tim asked if he was planning to break his no-kill rule then. And he said removing permanently vampires out of their pain, when they go mad, is a mercy. It's not like they are still human.” You said painfully.

Damien stayed silent for a minute. “I am coming into the study with you.” He finally said, he knocked on the door.

“Come in.”

Damian opened the door. “Greetings father, Ayna has asked me to be in on this meeting too.”

Bruce looked surprised. “Of course, Damian, you are welcome too, if that makes Ayna more comfortable.”

The meeting only took 15 minutes, Bruce only wanted to check if you had any problems or needs. After assuring him that you are fine, you left quickly.

Damian remained in the study for his own meeting.

Jury Duty

Danny has been living his best life in Gotham, hiding from the GIW but mostly moving forward with his life. (College, job, whatever)

Until his name is drawn for jury duty.

He complains to his friends. They bring up a few interesting points. Shouldnt being dead disqualify him? Eventually the anti ecto acts are brought up. Can the government enforce jury duty on a citizen that was declared legally non-sentient?

Now, it might not have been danny's smartest idea, but he replies to the summons with a "cant, i died," attaching a copy of the anti ecto acts and a short argument that its hypocritical of the government to strip him of his rights but still expect him to fulfill his civic responsibilities.

Whatever government desk job gets danny's reply to the summons thinks its a joke at first (theyre no stranger to the colorful and creative excuses people come up with to try to get out of jury duty), but danny provided all the right paperwork and instructions for them to jump through all the hoops necessary to locate the obscure law. They send it higher up the chain of command.

But this is Gotham. After several days of ruminating over the strange law, they decide to leave a tip on the bats' hotline (set up and maintained by Oracle). The whole situation felt a bit left of reality, and they weren't paid enough to deal with that shit. And if the government really was the problem here (look, they might have landed a secure government-funded desk job, but they were a grunt and held no loyalty to the government that continuously screwed over their home city), then merely passing the buck meant it would get covered up instead of exposed.

Oracle gets the message and starts digging, determining that this is A Big Problem, Actually. First order of business is to track down this Danny guy and give him a bat-level security detail. Second order is to push this to the Justice league.

The thing is, the giw had successfully hidden themselves from the justice league up until now. They covered their tracks, took care of loose ends. The laws were written to look like pest control.

They never considered that someone would respond to a jury duty sommons with "cant, im dead." First of all, they dont know about halfas, who could be dead without ever being legally declared. Secondly, why would a ghost pretend to be alive? Thirdly, why would they blow their cover? ("Sir, its *jury duty.*" "point withdrawn.")

It was pure chance that the desk job took it seriously enough to report it, and oracle only recognized the threat as it was because she made the logical leap from ectoplasm to lazarus water.

The bats investigate by intercepting danny's summons. Fortunately, the higher up decided it was a joke and didnt share it any further. Unfortunately, they told danny that he better show up for jury duty, come hell or high water.

That route blocked, they hack in a jury summons for jason todd. Being Actually Legally Dead, with all the paperwork correctly filed, means that he would never actually get a summons, but they need someone on this inside that clearly falls into the same category as danny to keep a close eye on him.

Anyways, this was a long and twisted set up to get not one, but two individuals in the same jury duty line up claiming they "cant, i died."

They definitely also mention this during the jury selection meeting, which is where everyone who was summoned gets to answer questions for both sides to determine if they count as being unbiased enough to sit the jury

Danny was considering playing the “can’t, I died” card in person, or just saying he’d heard about the case on the news, which is usually an immediate disqualification

(Indicating any preconceived bias will usually get you out of it, like “anyone who cheats deserves the death penalty”)

Imagine his surprise when that vague ghost sense he assumed was due to all the ghosts haunting the courthouse pings when some other guy drops the line first

(The judge is not amused, and accuses Jason of faking his death certificate. Jason asks if he wants to see the autopsy scars and is probably spending a night in jail for contempt of court for stripping)

Neither he nor Danny get on the actual jury unless the court are hella low on acceptable jurors from the list, but let’s say Jason plays it cool enough to go under the radar and Danny decides he needs to know more about That Guy, so they’re both in

Now, jurors aren’t allowed to talk about their personal lives, or ever discuss the case outside of their special talking room

(You’re not even allowed to google potentially relevant details - like the guy who worked out a cop’s tattoo was a white supremacist symbol and got in shit, they’re meant to ask a court official to research it for them)

So Jason’s not gonna learn much about Danny just from sitting jury duty together; his main concern is keeping Danny safe from the GIW, should they catch wind that he ratted them out

This does not stop them from making extremely sarcastic eye contact and hand gestures during super fun jury field trips (where you all sit in silence on the bus and only look at exactly what you are told to look at)

Or making sarcastic comments during deliberations with the rest of the jury

(Jason refuses to vote for incarceration unless it’s a rogue, because fuck the penal system it doesn’t work anyway and Gotham’s is only worse, he can just break the accused’s kneecaps once they’re out if he decides they’re guilty)

(Danny opposes him for one hour of glorious over dramatics solely because the guy who DOES wanna send the accused to jail is a dick and the longer Danny and Jason filibuster the less anyone wants to listen to that asshole)

(When Danny is finally dramatically won over the guy nearly screams)

This is glorious.

Danny watches Jason's rant and threat to strip to show his autopsy scars. The only reason he doesnt is because "cool scars will win you no pity points." When its danny's turn, he asks if they wanna see his death scar, driving up the creep factor just to see if they regret their decision or double down. The answer is yes - they are clearly uncomfortable, but double down nontheless.

Jason makes a joke about death, taxes, and jury duty. Danny makes a joke about how jurers are desperate enough for jury panels to raise the dead. The selection panel is derailed by their sudden competition to make as many death jokes as possible.

It still doesn't get either of them out.

Danny brought in copies of the anti-ecto acts to hand out to anyone who scoffs at his argument that he's been stripped of his rights. He makes sure that jason takes home a copy - undead solidarity while being oppressed by the man.

It *still* isn't enough. Apparently, it's just that hard to put together a panel in gotham.

Jason asks danny why he's so flagrent about outing himself when these laws clearly state that he runs the risk of being captured and experimented on.

Danny's answer? Dude, its *jury duty,* absolutely worth the risk. The more serious answer? If the giw show up in gotham and start causing problems, maybe the bats will take notice and actually do something about it.

Jason concedes that point. Technically, they're already doing something.

ooo I have to add my two cents to this.

As much as Danny hates Jury Duty, both he and Jason prolong it so much that the media actually catches wind of the trial. (Babs put an anonymous tip in with someone she knows at the station.) So now the media has flocked to this like a pack of ravenous wolves only to find out the real story is the fact that there are two dead civilians being forced to do Jury Duty.

(Danny absolutely made sure to give the media all the same information he gave everyone else just for shits and giggles. Although he wonders if he might have taken it too far considering they want to interview him, and he definitely was NOT out of the proverbial ghost closet.)

People think the story is a joke when it airs until Skulker starts causing chaos in Gotham because he hasn't been able to fight the Welp in a month. Now, people are freaking out because ghosts are real, and didn't they already have enough to worry about with the Joker running around?

Eventually, other cities catch wind of everything happening in Gotham, and it spreads like wildfire, all the while Jason and Danny are just poking fun at this whole experience.

The GIW has definitely caught wind of the entire thing and is now out in full force in Gotham trying to hunt down the two dead Jurors but are having an absolutely shitty time because not only are the Bats out in full force fucking them up, but also the rogues because nobody messes with Gotham except them.

So, now Two Face is doing everything in his power to find out everything there is to know about the Anti Ecto Acts, including bribery and murder. (Babs and Tim have hacked most of their bases and sent all relevant information to Harvey. Anonymously, of course.)

Harley and Ivy are out on the streets beating the crap out of any GIW idiot they come across because if the dead aren't safe, then what makes a meta any safer? They also might be a little pissed cause they heard one of them being a homophobic bigot.

Danny is watching the chaos unfold, and he's beside himself with glee at the fact that this all started because someone pulled his name for Jury Duty. He absolutely asked Jason for his number after the trial was over because, hey, the undead gotta stick together.

A Fine Warrior

Damian thoughtfully, with an ice pack pressed to the blooming bruise over his right cheek, wasn't sure why there was such a fuss. Why the administrators and nurses and principal were hovering so incessantly. Didn't they understand the warriors need to prove themselves? What it meant to be able to prove to his classmates exactly what the Blood Son was capable of. He shifted to the left. Daniel Fenton remained cordoned off by one of the security officers, a scowling receptionist, and the nurse who was pressing butterfly bandages to the split over his forehead. He was grinning too. His lips swollen.

"You fight well." Damian admitted.

"You're not so bad yourself."

Damian scoffed. He had been trained from birth. He was Robin. Of course he was good.

"Be quiet, Mr. Fenton. I don't think you understand the gravity of the situation."

"It's about 9.8 m/s2. Why am I the only one in trouble. You'll notice I've got a bruise too."

Again, someone scoffed. Damian was Damian Wayne. Of course the boarding student would be put on disciplinary charge while the Wayne was ignored entirely. They'd probably apologize to his father. Cowards.

"We'll discuss this when your guardian gets here, Mr. Fenton."

"Do not tell me that you have wasted my father's time with such a petty reason." Damian straightened, removing the ice pack. "His time is valuable. To waste is on such a paltry thing is absurd."

"Dude, you got into a fight." Daniel pointed out. He poked at his lip in the mirror reflecting in the back of the fish thank. The koi fish ignored him.

"Exactly, Mr. Wayne. A fight. That's something we must call the guardians for, thank you Mr. Fenton." She stopped, stared, and glowered at Danny. "We've called yours as well."

Unlike the fear which it would inspire in most students, Daniel shrugged. "They've got all the time they need."

"Oh? Well." Principal Grace's receptionist slid into the room, clipboard in hand and eyes wide. His father, Damian surmised, had that affect on people. Awed by his beauty and charms and the mask he put on to deal with the world.

"Mr. Wayne is here!" She blurted, ears pink.

"Well, let him in!"

His father had clearly been in some sort of meeting' but not one he'd bothered to dress up for. Slacks, a white pressed shirt, and a jacket. Something simple; and still every straying eye looked him up and down. "Damian! I got over here as fast as I could! Are you alright!" He rushed across the room, immediately dropping to his knee for a better look. Quick hands assessed the injuries.

"Father. I am well."

"You were fighting! you were." He turned, finally catching sight of Daniel. He was making faces at the fish. "...in a fight? Damian?"

"He is a warrior. He shows promise." Dark eyebrows rose sharply.

Principal Grace scoffed again. "And if Mr. Fenton's guardian would be."

"On time." A smooth voice assured the assemblage. Rich, warm, and apparently the reason the security guard had gone red.

"You'll have to come up with a better opener than that." Daniel said plainly.

"Prînkips." The smooth voice sounded amused. "There is nothing better. You were in a fight. Did you win?"

"He did not!" Damian surged to his feet, sidestepping his father and coming to an abrupt halt. Tall and lean, the stranger did not look like a Gotham native. Long white hair was braided loosely and hung over one shoulder. Though a jagged, vicious scar cut down the left side of their face' it only enhanced the beauty. They wore a deep purple pea-coat with pearl buttons. Slacks as well, but tucked into tall boots which should have looked out of fashion. Their earrings were small clock faces which were an odd touch for the figure; but they moved with supreme confidence.

Damian hoped they weren't a new rogue.

"It was a draw." Daniel agreed.

Brilliant green eyes focused on Damian, a heavy silence seized his heart. Pushing thoughts to the outskirts of his mind. He only managed to nod.

"A fearsome warrior indeed." They agreed with a flash of a toothy smile.

"Mr....ma'am? You...are...erm, Zeit." She trailed off.

Bruce stood, twisting around to meet the same jade eyes. It wasn't often Damian met someone as beautiful as either of his parents. Objectively, he knew. He'd also been told, again and again and again. Classmates, rogues who flirted with his father when kidnapped a Bruce Wayne. Invading aliens, world leaders, and everyone in between. It had been a great deal of time since he'd seen his father struck dumb.

The figure, Zeit, blinked a few times before offering a faint, pleased smile. Someone giggled.

"Perhaps we could....my office, please. Gentle...uh, people?"

They obeyed and trooped into the office. Whispers echoed through the closed door, giggles, and gossip. All while a heavy silence fell over the office.

A tempest on the horizon, waiting to break.

Summary of previous: Ayna Wayne has turned into a vampire, since considered safe due preferring to bite cattle instead of people, is still living in Wayne Manor. Bruce does not like vampires, so doesn't know.

Alfred and Damian do know, so does half the Justice League.

Ayna Wayne is 18, Damian is 21.

Damian is Robin, Ayna is called Shadow by Damian when she runs around as a Vampire.

Rescue of Red Hood

Group chat - hidden

Robin: Shadow, Hood has been captured,

Robin: The Bats are 20 mins out, you are 2 mins from the location (GPS xxxx. xxxx) can you go and scare them so they are too busy to attack Hood?

Shadow: Sure, sounds like fun, heading there now.

Robin: Fun? Shadow, have you taken something?

Shadow: No… well yes. Class mates wanted to celebrate an engagement, and went to a pub, and since alcohol doesn't do anything at all to me, I may have taken a power up pill version 5, a hour one.

Robin: I thought those were destroyed because they make you very intoxicated.

Shadow: May have rescued some from getting destroyed, and hidden them.

Shadow: Oh, I am high as a kite. I feel so good right now. Everything is so sloooow at the moment. Oh look, pretty lights.

Robin: Forget about the rescue, go home right now.

Shadow: I am finnnne... everything is finnnne... No worries. Am at the location now. I like Hood, will be just in and out quick.

Shadow: Right, let's bluff that I am a very scary vampire lady.

Shadow: Putting you on silent.

Robin: You will be receiving a lecture from me tomorrow. (Unread)

Jason, still in his Red Hood mask, woke up with a headache, and found he had been chained to a chair in a warehouse. Felt annoyed he got captured so easily.

There were a number of strange gang members around. He did not recognise anyone nor the gang patches. There was one good thing, he could and did push his panic button.

Anyway chains? Man, that's a little overkill, did they think he had super strength or something?

“Good, you are awake,” a harsh male voice interrupted him checking his surroundings. Jason looked over at the speaker, obviously the gang leader. No one he knew. New gang or filling a capture contact?

“I thought capturing the Red Hood would be hard, but no …”

Oh great, a villain monologuing. The perfect thing to make headaches worse. When is the rescue happening? Jason wondered how long before he will asked to be shot, so he doesn't need to listen anymore.

Everything and everyone went silent.

Red Hood looked over, a pale skin female was standing in the middle of the warehouse. Her black long hair was flowing everywhere. She was dressed in a black tank top, and black jeans and was wearing a face domino mask.

She had fangs, oh shit, that is a Vampire.

“You kidnapped Red Hood? Protector of Crime Alley? Without permission! How dare you!” She snarled, focusing on the gang leader as her fangs grew larger and she looked like she was about to go feral.

Red Hood couldn't look away, although he could hear the rest of the gang leaving the warehouse as fast as possible.

“Ah?” said the gang leader backing up, “shoot her!”

A couple of guns went off as she jumped at the gang leader, Jason was sure he saw her dodge the bullets, and also push the leader out of the way. The leader hit his head on the wall and dropped to the ground unconscious.

She spun around to face the last two gang members who had their guns out and were shaking with fear.

“Run, run, little rabbits, I will enjoy chasing you down.” She purred.

The two men ran out of the building, screaming in fear.

The girl laughed, “he was correct, that was fun.” She turned to face Red Hood, who stiffened with fear, but tried to hide it. “Relax, a friend sent me here to help, was just closer than the bats. I am a friend. Not an enemy."

She moved around to the back of the chair. Red Hood heard a clink noise and the chains fell off. Then silence, he looked around, there was no one but him and one unconscious gang leader in the warehouse.

“Thank you.” He called out standing up.

Batman, Nightwing and Red Robin appeared moments later.

“Red Hood report.” rasped out Batman.

“Got taken out when returning from patrol, woke up here, chained to that chair, with that gang leader monologuing at me. A female vampire turned up, not feral, she knocked out the gang leader, didn't bite him. Everyone else ran away. She broke the chains and left.”

“That makes no sense, vampires are not safe.” muttered Batman shaking his head.

“Well I owe that one my life.” Red Hood looked around, “Is Robin around?”

“He is checking the perimeter, by his own suggestion.”

“Oh,” said Red Hood quietly, “I wonder if he knows something?”

Bat AI (really one of Oracle hackers that she is teaching and watching)

Video recording found, Flagged as Vampire sighting meeting with Robin due to recording from inside the warehouse.

Protocol Justice League vampire protection: deleted from Bat computer, forward to Oracle supervisor to be checked and filed in correct place, probably to be filed in Justice League folder only.

Recording started:

Robin had just finished checking the outside warehouse for any guards. Stopped near a dark corner on the ground. A second person came out of the shadows in black pants and grey hoodie with the hood up. Robin and the person looked at each other, may have spoken to each other, but no audio file was found.

The person moved back into the shadows and vanished, Robin went to meet the rest of the bats who were exiting the building.

Extracts of Medical records of Ayna Wayne age 16 years

Wayne butler Alfred Pennyworth reported Ayna Wayne, youngest daughter of Bruce Wayne was bitten by a feral individual with the vampire virus ten days ago.

While usually either antibodies or the person's immune system fights off the virus infection, one in 200,000 will develop vampire traits regardless of any treatment. Ayna's body is developing those traits and has been classed as a vampire.

Note: as requested by Ayna and Alfred, the Wayne family has not been informed of this vampire infection, Ayna has been moved to Star Labs. The family has been informed that due to ‘fainting’ issues, she is getting help by working out which nutrient or mineral will solve this problem.

Ayna has given verbal and written permission for experiments to be carried out on her, in both feral and normal state. Her exact words were ‘I donate my body to science, in all states, living, dead and anything in-between.’

There is to be a Green Lantern scientist present at all times at Starlabs, and Superman is to be on call. This is to ensure everyone's safety.

All experiments will be both reported, reviewed and able to be viewed at all times by the Justice League to ensure no pain, harm nor mental abuse will happen due to any experiments.

Note: Both Batman and Bruce Wayne have noted opinions that Vampires should be put out of their misery and for the good of humanity, the inflected should be captured and removed, all dead bodies must be burnt. In no situations are either to be informed about Ayna Wayne state.

15 March 20XX (14 days later)

Ayna Wayne's body has completed Vampire changes

Is unable to be in bright sunlight without burning skin. Skin has turned very pale. Suntan lotion supplied, which blocks 100% of all sunrays.

Will show feral behavior if very low on nutrition. Recovers to normal behaviour once nutrition levels return. Feral behaviour is snarling, hiding, attempting to bite and eat to bring nutrition levels back up. If food is offered, Ayna prefers to eat the food instead of biting.

Is not getting sufficient nutrition from bread, vegetables nor fruits, and is now classified as a carnivore.

Solutions in progress - different nutrients given to Ayna to find out which animal meat and blood has sufficient nutrients to stop going feral.

She has advised that human and pork is juck, beef is yum, raw or cooked, raw chicken is inflected and she is not touching that, cooked chicken tastes okay, sheep and lamb is divine.

Of the nutrients above, beef has the most, the rest is very close except for chicken which has the lowest.

NOTE: no meat has sufficient nutrients, additional minerals have been given in pill form.

1 April 20XX (month later)

Anya has been supplied with a wristwatch that changes colours according to nutrition levels. Blue is best, green is fine, orange is low, red is dangerous, black is feral.

She requested to return to her family and home.

Since she has been stable for weeks, and when feral will head for cattle not human for nutrients, we agreed that this should be possible as long as a number of safety procedures have been set up.

15 April 20XX (month and half)

Ayna Wayne has been returned back to the Wayne manor.

Alfred Pennywise is to send a weekly report in.

Ayna Wayne is to visit monthly to be re-assessed.

Anya Wayne is planning to move her rooms further away from the family rooms. She also wants to decrease close family relationships for their safety, hopefully this fear will decrease and close family relationships will re-develop. Alfred will watch this.

1 February 20XX (nearly a year later)

Ayna Wayne has reported that Damian Wayne has discovered her Vampire status, she gives permission for him to view all experiments and all medical records. He has reported to protect her and help her in all ways. And will not inform the rest of the family.

When asked how he found out, he advised he walked in on Ayna and Alfred the cat having a hissy fit. Ayna had been showing her fangs (these are retractable) at the cat.
