i have another hot take i think full grown adults who have to insert themselves into every media they consume and can’t enjoy things they can’t directly relate to are just deeply self obsessed but don’t think they’re capable of being self obsessed because of self esteem issues, when truthfully self hatred is a form of self obsession. being self centered doesn’t have to be narcissism, it can be severe self hatred too. it just means you think about yourself more than is healthy or normal. and i see that so fucking much on this website it actually is crazy

i cannot emphasize enough how important it is that you should ideally give birth in a fully equipped and staffed medical facility or if you insist on giving birth through an alternative method you should be within minutes of a hospital and i mean under 5 minutes if you’d like me to be really fucking frank
like i can get on board with so much feminist theory and stuff, truly, and i do acknowledge that obstetrics and gynaecology as a field holds blind spots that are egregious (e.g. infant and maternal mortality in the black community) but there is no empowerment in risky birthing practices that our foremothers, and i’m not mincing words, often suffered through. birthing is natural, but it is not “easy” or even “innate”, it is best practiced guided and witnessed by those that know what to do in an emergency. you are not reconnecting to any innate feminine nature by practicing dangerous birthing practices—you are recreating a time when the bodies and lives of women barely mattered and it was expected that death would/could occur at insane and tragic rates.
this is a hill i will spend the rest of my days fighting on because while i am not interested in birthing children myself, i have an incredible passion and interest in the field of labour and delivery. it’s been one of my greatest joys to play even a small part in delivering neonates. i do not want anyone to risk their babies over a deeply, deeply misguided idea of free birth being “the natural way” when natural is not always synonymous with the safest way.
So many people think it's either midwife or doctor. It's not. Have your midwife or doula in the hospital room with you, I promise the doctors don't give a shit. Hell, you can have her do the delivery itself and just have the doctors there as emergency backup! But for the love of your baby, go to the fucking hospital.

I accept that if someone is set on using AI to generate fic that I probably can't convince them not to with morals (although AI has been proven in a study to be on track for collapsing the global economy and is causing droughts that are eradicating animal populations and encouraging psychosis and violence and suicide) or with the pursuit of self betterment (although if you don't practice writing and reviewing and editing and formatting by yourself you will lose those skills, and the skills they contribute to, and studies are showing decreased neuroplasticity and neural linking in people who use AI frequently) or solidarity to others in fan spaces (y'know.. since their stolen works have been mined and broken down for parts to be haphazardly put back together into the final product, because AI is not actually AI, it cannot think, or create, or speak with its own voice, it is a large language model and it stitches other people's vocal cords together into a mangled larynx and then turns on a fan to push air through it because it can't breathe, either). And that's fine, whatever, I personally don't want to die on the shrivelled husk of the planet we sacrificed to five rich white men and their endless will to avoid paying their workers, but to each their own.
However, I am BEGGING the people who really cannot resist generating AI fics to tag their works on AO3. I don't want to read it, I don't want to contribute to the acceptance of AI fanwork, and i don't want to read the same four fucking sentence structures on repeat until my eyes bleed. It's fucking painful and it's reaching the point where I'm DNF-ing fics that don't even read like AI just because I'm so sick to death of certain phrases now.
Yes, if you tag it that way, some people won't read it. But firstly I don't understand the value of engagement with a work you didn't produce anyway, but also, that's the whole fucking point of AO3.
You aren't owed interaction just because you want it, but if you want to submit something to an archive that has been designed around user-directed experience curation, you owe it to the users to adhere to protocol.

Shane comes out of the closet sometime after Scott does, and in some random, lighthearted interview, they ask him what he's looking for in a man. And Shane's just, off-hand like, "Well, he'd have to have at least one Stanley Cup. Obviously." And when he gets a good reaction from that, he keeps going, like "Needs to be amazing at hockey. Definitely needs to be at least an All-Star, if not a captain. Hot too. If he can't bench-press me, I'm not interested."
And it's all in fun, except two days after the interview prints, Ilya Rozanov shows up at his door like "knock, knock. I am here to apply for boyfriend position. Do you need resume? I brought my Stanley Cup ring, just in case."

my friend's discord server has a "proof of touch grass" channel where they post pics of them doing regular activities outdoors/in public. i think many online spaces could benefit from such a thing
when i was super depressed - like struggling to eat anything barely able to get out of bed to pee depressed - my good friend asked me every day to send her a picture of me holding a leaf and a picture of a meal i was eating and it helped me significantly
(also, she was never judgey - if my meal was a single potato chip she would simply say good job eating a potato chip today <3 )
