hi im scrap aka quill (if u still call me mel out of habit its fine lol) (he/they but im open to other stuff.) most people on here call me some variation of scrap (scrap, scrappy, etc.) im going through a tiny identity crisis (prepare for new and more consistent branding!!)
i came to be in an ancient time in an ancient land. we didnt have to worry about stupid stuff like the government or gender back then. it was pretty chill. then a bunch of shit happened, and, somehow (i think there was some time travel happening in there idk it all sorta blurred together) i ended up here, in a land far across the ocean, where i do have to worry about the government and gender. yippee.
i think humans are generally pretty cool though! and i see how difficult it is for you in this world. thats why im on the internet. its a pretty good way to talk to people about it.
i like to write about people and about the world. i also draw sometimes even though i rarely post any art lol. i also wanna get more into making music but writing is the main thing for me

What will hopefully become an indie animated series about young broke fantasy creatures moving into a tree together as part of a chain of events fated to occur. They all have their own issues, and all they think they're getting is some roommates to share the financial burden of their new home. Little do they know that there's a lot more in store for them.
Lynx is hoping that having her own space will make everything feel less overwhelming. Sal wants to be anywhere but his mother's house. Zing's there for shits and giggles—at least that's what they tell everyone—and Shailyn likes the tree too much to just leave it at the mercy of new tenants. And Nema's inexplicable visions seem to be pointing toward a future that brings them all together in ways that even she can't imagine.

It always starts when you turn fifteen.
[insert super cool and intriguing blurb here cause i fear i still havent written one (the old one is outdated cause the story has gone through so many changes lol)]
Gildamore has a long and convoluted origin story, but I'll spare you the details for now. It's become what will be a series of 5 novels about two characters getting shipped off to magic school and becoming besties very early on. Unfortunately they also both begin crushing on each other at the same time. They are terrible at hiding it, but Lav has no ability at all to pick up on social cues, and Aeryth is just clueless in general (i love her sm.) This one's probably gonna be more slice of life (HAHAHAHAHAHAHAA OH MY HAHAHA NO ITS FUCKING NOT LMAOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOOO), and it was always gonna end up being at least 75% fluff (ok thats still true but THAT 25% HAHAHAHAHAHAA.) Gildamore is entirely my excuse to write cute romance with a side of emotional devastation and they save the world cause they're cool like that™. Well, not exactly "save the world," but close enough. And when I say emotional devastation I mean after reading one of the scenes my friend said smth to the effect of "i want to both cry and punch you" so yeah lol
my cousin (not the one im gonna force into helping me with fairfable music. different cousin. this one is a party pooper. he would make a poop joke right here because i said that. hes a grown ass man. i love him lmao) is mad about it being ya tho. its not even ya. throughout the series the characters ages range from 15 to like 20. also there are more no no words than the typical ya fantasy book. the magic system is cool as shit tho im really proud of it

Life is good for Beatrix. Sure, they won't let her learn magic even though she's of age because she's "not ready." But, as the king's niece, she's entitled to a lot of perks.
But all that changes when her chambers are broken into one night by two masked strangers, and she is torn away from the life she's always known. The two strangers—Kyren and Silas—take her out into the wider world, where she learns that maybe life isn't all it's cracked up to be in the confines of noble society. And when a lifelong street urchin named Madge joins their group in search of a way out, Beatrix comes face to face with the cosmic gap between Madge's life and her own. It unsettles her.
So their little rebellion has four members now.
That's the premise for the first volume anyway. Each of the five main characters (I really like doing a main 5 don't I) gets one (yes I know there's only 4 in the synopsis. Elodia comes in later.) Yet another huge long-term project. But that's what happens when you want to overthrow an entire regime of old men too rich for their own and anyone else's good.

Once, there were dragons. Supposedly. Sigrid doesn’t actually believe any of the stories. Who would? She isn’t a child anymore, and she’s outgrown myths at this point. Of course, all of that changes when she discovers that maybe there’s some truth in the legend.
It all starts with an exceptionally strong earthquake.
With the help of a new scaly companion and the new kid on Berk, she embarks on a quest to protect new discoveries against all odds and prepare the world for an impossible but necessary change.
I don't update this fic often (my sincerest apologies to the three whole people who have bookmarked it.) I promise I do intend to finish it at some point. You're just gonna have to wait 3-5 business months between chapters. (*coughs in i havent posted a new chapter since may*)

Couple things here, for when you do this to people:
1. if you get the “answer my call” text, NEVER ANSWER THE CALL.
They are calling you because they want to have the conversation verbally, and be able to lie later about what they said or didn’t say. Force them to continue via text or email- force them to continue the conversation in writing or not at all.
2. “Lack of 2 weeks notice is unprofessional!” or the other version, “Not providing notice is illegal!”
No it isn’t. Neither is true.
And in the US, all states except Montana are “at will” employment (though you may hear an employer refer to it as “right to work” to make it sound better, it’s the same thing). Sure, at-will employment means they can fire you without cause, BUT! It also means that you are not legally required to give a reason for quitting, or to give notice of any kind.
Is it polite to give notice when you can? Sure. Do bosses expect it? Absolutely. But that does not make you legally required to provide it.
3. The only thing I would change in the worker’s interaction here was their response when initially asked to come in.
Employee: “Hey Mark. Sorry I’m unable to cover the shift tonight because I’m studying for my exam tomorrow.”
Don’t give a reason for your lack of availability. It may be tempting to. You may feel rude if you don’t.
DON’T DO IT.
You do not owe your boss any information about what you do off the clock, and any reason you give will only ever be used against you.
Boss: “Hey I need you to cover Jasper’s shift tonight.”
Employee: “Sorry, I’m not available.”
And leave it at that.
Do not elaborate.
Do not offer additional information.
When you boss asks you to elaborate, because they will, be polite but firm. “With respect, that’s personal. I’m sorry, but I’m unavailable to cover this shift/work late/come in early/etc.”
Be a broken record- you’re unavailable. That’s the only information they need to know, and it’s the only information they have a LEGAL RIGHT to know.
Please stop giving your bosses information they don’t need to know and don’t get to have, because they’re only going to try and use it to fuck you over later.

im actually writing for once and i can already tell im going to look at this later and wonder what the fuck i was on. i can feel myself pulling sentences together out of the scraps of my consciousness (haha scraps. pun intended) and i forgot where this sentence was going it just felt too short and not rambly enough for almost 5am good day i mean good slightly bigger than wee (is 5 wee? is it a subjective thing? i always thought it was like 1-3, maybe 4 is stretching it a bit. idk about 5) hours of the morning. i can sleep whenever i want to
every so often i remember i have to actually write my books so i reread stuff to get back into it and idk maybe im just sleep deprived but i LOVE lav's internal monologue so much 😭
For once I had inspiration, so lemme introduce Sycamore (she/her) and Cedar (he/him)
They’re village protectors (I may make a more original name for it but probably not)
Village protectors work as both law enforcement and defend against beasts. Issues with beasts varies from each village; villages in the core of the forest or are large and have been around for a while deal with less beasts since they’ve been driven out of the area, while small villages or in the outskirts of the forest get much more encounters with them. Almost all villages have established defense against them though, like plants that deteriorate them and protectors who moderate possible beast activity and take care of them if they pose a threat.
Sycamore and Cedar are coworkers, but they also have a close relationship outside it. They kinda have a good cop/bad cop dynamic
Sycamore is the commander of their group and extremely serious. Nobody knows if she’s capable of having emotions and most would vote no. She’s the best fighter on the team and is extremely skilled with a sword, both for offense and defense.
Cedar is second in command and is relatively young for the job. He’s a lot more cheerful and laid back, sometimes being mistaken for not taking his job seriously, but he is skilled at it, mostly in tracking.
Also Sycamore can be really blunt without even realizing it. Coming out isn’t too big of a deal in Betula, but that isn’t a usual response. Cedar’s just gotten used to it by now tho

I really think that Project Hail Mary is truly an important movie to come out at this exact time with all that it going on in the world. Take AI for instance and all the growing dependence on it and its presence in creative works. Then, look at this movie that refused to even use CGI or green screen. They made an intricate puppet and hired five puppeteers. They even had one of them do the voice for the puppet despite not being "famous." They took the time to make a whole space ship to bring authenticity to the movie. So much of this was done out of pure love of film, love of storytelling, and love of art. We need that now more than ever, and to have it in such an instantly popular movie is even better. That's not even to talk about how important the story itself is right now. It shows people coming together in the face of hardship. It shows the power of empathy and hope. It shows people helping each other despite differences and working to save people who haven't done anything for them personally. Ryland Grace has been given no reason to want to help Stratt's mission go through from the way he has been treated, but he does it anyway because humanity at its core is good. Rocky is trying to save his own world, but he doesn't hesitate to help Grace save his own too. They find each other in the face of solitude and are able to connect through their shared mission. They repeatedly choose to help each other even when it isn't in their own best interest, and they both choose not only to save their own world but each other's. It's so hopeful. It's so full of love and sacrifice, and it shows that sacrifice doesn't always have to mean you don't get to live. It's about empathy and helping others, and I think the world needs to hear about that right now. This movie is so important especially in the context of now. It gives me hope. This is a movie that shows that there is hope for humanity and that humanity can be good, and it shows that humanity is necessary in art and film to get a result like this.
