the thing is, if your younger self was a bigot or an abuser, u can't make people forgive you. but you still gotta forgive yourself, like that's non-negotiable, dude. that happens before u can even ask the question of earning forgiveness from anyone lese
oops, in your attempt to martyr yourself out of respect for your victims you accidentally sabotaged your own ability to conceptualize yourself as anything but a perpetual evildoer who is always one bad day away from hurting everyone you love, all but guaranteeing history to repeat itself. rookie mistake
im gonna try explaining myself, cus im a gambling addict and im waiting for the day that it actually works.
"forgiveness" is personal, that's why I said in the post that you might inflict harm on people for which they can never forgive you, but that's their quest. if you abuse someone, you can't go no-contact with yourself. you actually keep living in your own head indefinitely, and ultimately you need to learn to live with yourself in order to continue living a full life without further harm. this is not necessarily an anti-carceral thought, although i am generally anti-carceral myself. I simply want people to like, fix their heart and atone for real with measured accountability & self love instead of dissociating, self-marking themselves forever and guaranteeing their recidivism.
You and a remorseful abuser would both think I'm giving the easy, coddling path. It's actually the tough pragmatic path in disguise.
Ok. I see where you going, but I strongly disagree. The one person who can't be allowed to forgive ones crimes is oneself.
Even if everyone else has forgiven you for the abuse you did, you must never allow yourself to let what you did be forgiven. Once you've done that, you've gotten to the point where you might do it again.
Never let up. Always strive towards improvement. Never let yourself live down the horrors of the past. Only by comparing ourselves to who we were can we grow.
this is called OCD
It’s so fucking frustrating to argue about this on tumblr.com. Because people might pay lip service to the idea of criminal justice reform or even prison abolition. But deep down they always come back to the Calvinism of it all: there are good people (victims) and bad people (abusers) and once someone has revealed themselves to be an abuser they can never be forgiven, never be part of society again.
And if you believe the world works like that one other thing also has to be true: You know you are a ‘good person’, so nothing you ever do could be truly abusive. You could never truly harm another person. And if you did they must have deserved it. Because you are a good person.
And wow, does that not just sound like something abusers usually say, when confronted with their own behavior?
I would leave the rest up to the reader but because we are on the piss on the poor reading comprehension site here, I’m going to spell it out: get comfortable with your own fallibility. Acknowledge that you could indeed severely harm someone else. And that means that you NEED to learn to forgive yourself.
Learning, and applying self-forgiveness also means doing the work of understanding the how of how you hurt others. And that doesn't just mean "I did bad things" - it means understanding the course of actions that led you to think doing something that hurt others was the most reasonable course of action. Sometimes that's out of sheer ignorance - doing the filthy work of fully understanding what you did will ensure that you learn. Sometimes you hurt others because you yourself were hurting - doing the work means you understand you can't perpetuate misery as a means to rid yourself of it. Sometimes you hurt others because you were deluded - doing the work means you strip yourself of maladaptive reasoning or self-serving lies and learn to listen to your actual feelings and accurately read the truth of what's going on for you and others.
All of these steps towards self-forgiveness require fucking work that fundamentally changes the person seeking that self-forgiveness. That is the fucking healing process.
If you don't allow people the grace of self-forgiveness, then there is no room for self-improvement. If there is no room for self-improvement, then there is no way to heal. And people that can't heal will inevitably do monstrous things. Pointless shame just makes hurt people more volatile.
Allowing self-forgiveness isn't transactional. Allowing self-forgiveness doesn't steal from victims, it just makes people live in a jail of shame.
👆🏻
This!
If someone who did something shitty is doing everything to be better so they won’t do that harm again, and all people do is throw their shit in their face forever, they’re not going to bother to change because that’s all they’re being seen as.
The people they hurt don’t owe them forgiveness, but the hurt people also shouldn’t follow the abuser around and destroy them as they try to do better so they don’t repeat the harm.
It’s a different story if the person tries to brush the harm off, hide it, act like they weren’t in the wrong and continue to cause harm, then by all means warn about them everywhere.

The Trump administration is cynically exploiting calls for stricter AI regulation to pass broad censorship measures at the federal level.
So, in terrible news, Trump's trying to pull some strings to pass this massive internet censorship bill, featuring all the kinds of internet censorship we're terrified of, including mandatory ID for accessing basically any website, specifically to crush state regulation of AI, because apparently this man will always see the moral bottom of the barrel and start digging.
So, if you live in the US and hate censorship and AI you know what to do, contact your congresspeople and tell them do not fucking dare let this through or so help us god...

the reaction when someone is misogynistic to a cis woman: "wtf that's not ok you can't treat women like that"
the reaction when someone is misogynistic to a trans woman: "hahaha that's so funny, you're treating them- i mean her, like a woman. gender affirming misogyny am i right hahahaha"
something something, women you're allowed to abuse. women you're allowed to abuse
The sign many left wingers have subconsciously accepted moving right on covid and embraced lowering public health standards is when people seem to think “masks should be mandatory in healthcare settings /airplanes “ is somehow a radical position to take in an ongoing pandemic
its so fucking weird because "masks in healthcare" should be the default all of the time. Doctors and nurses are literally employed to go from sick person to sick person, treating immunocompromised people especially often.
It should have been mandatory BEFORE covid
Also, current wait times to see doctors are pretty bad (at least in America, cannot speak to there rest of the world though I've heard it's bad all around) and a doctor getting sick means dozens of patients have to have their appointments moved, some now needing to wait months longer for critical care, so doctors should be required to wear masks when they're working so they have a lower chance of getting sick and fucking over their patients especially the ones who routinely interact with actively sick people.
Wow! It's almost like wearing a respirator (both to keep from spreading illness to others and to prevent yourself from being infected) is a radical act that helps to solve the root issue of communicable disease with a low-cost, efficient, readily avaliable piece of technology, and by addressing the uncomfortably ever-present risk of spreading disease in our overcrowded urban society, we help workers stay on the job, keep doctors practicing, keep pilots and train drivers alert and ready to handle emergencies, keep children from developing loads of chronic illnesses that add further stress to already overtasked medical systems, etc. etc. etc.
If you consider yourself radical and you stopped masking because Joe Biden gave you permission or whatever, you can always course correct and start masking again so you'll be practicing what you preach instead of coughing the same covid on everyone as literal fascists.
i hate arguing with the skinny bitches who go "ur not fat dont say that!!!" when you, as a fat person, casually mention being a fat person. and when you say "no actually its fine, im fat and its fine, there's nothing wrong with being fat" and it either makes them uncomfortable or shatters their perception or they hit you with the "i dont think youre fat i think you're beautiful!!" like fat and beautiful are antonyms. like can you grow upppp 😐
Trans women are often denied their sexuality at every turn: by potential partners who treat us like a fetish, and by medical professionals who know woefully little about the sexual side effects of hormonal transition. But trans women deserve orgasms too — so I set out to find them.
There were a lot of things I didn’t like about my body at the time (and to this day), but my sex drive wasn’t one of them. And while I wanted — needed — to start hormones, I was scared of losing my ability to feel sexual pleasure. So the next time I had an appointment with my doctor to talk about hormones, I asked her if I would still be able to have orgasms.
She made a disgusted sound from the back of her throat, as though I’d just said something distasteful and completely inappropriate. “Most transsexuals find,” she said, refusing to meet my gaze, “that their masculine sexual…urges are very disturbing to them. So that when they become women, they don’t need orgasms.”
It wasn’t until after I went home, feeling humiliated and crushed, that I really began to think about the implication of what she’d said: When they become women, they don’t need orgasms. What the hell did that mean? That I had to choose between my sexuality and my gender identity as a woman? That trans women aren’t supposed to have a sexuality?
And also a good amount of what people call "fake" Mexican food is really just Norteño food
"Nobody eats flour tortillas in Mexico!"
Maybe nobody in Jalisco, Michoacan, Oaxaca, Veracruz etc. eats flour tortillas, but my Chihuahuense grandparents ate nothing but flour tortillas and legit never even touched a corn tortilla until my dad married my Jalisciense mom
"Burritos are not authentic Mexican food! In Mexico they're considered gringo food!"
The burrito as we know it today is believed to have most likely originated in either Chihuahua or Sonora, both of which are Northern Mexican states
these are getting weird
see this is exactly what I'm talking about. this labour is so incredibly invisibilised that there are real human beings, walking about amongst us, leading normal lives, etc., who earnestly believe that machines can make an item of clothing from start to finish.
Hey just in case someone on here doesn’t quite understand how labor intensive making a garment is, here is a list of things that (to the best of my knowledge) cannot be done by machine alone, from a costumer/tailor in training
Cutting - in my opinion, the most labor intensive part of the process. The amount of time/effort needed varies depending on the pattern and if seam allowance is included or marked separately, but no matter what this process can not be done by machine. Each and every panel and piece of fabric that goes into a garment must be cut by hand by a person.
Pinning/clipping - pinning (or clipping) is the stage at which you align the pieces you are going to be stitching together and hold them together with — you guessed it! — either pins or clips. This can not be done by machine.
Stitching - the actual sewing. This can be done by a sewing machine, but that machine still needs to be operated by a human being.
Ironing/pressing - two words that mean the same thing. The iron itself is a machine, but once again, it needs to be operated by a human being.
Finishing - depending on the technique you use, there are certain finishing techniques that can only be done by hand. But, let’s assume we’re talking about fast fashion, which is usually just finished with a simple overlock/serger. Once again: these machines need to be operated by people.
These are just the basic steps to making a garment, and don’t include textile arts that I am not as knowledgeable about, such as weaving, knitting, and crochet. Also, it is important to note that there are a lot of things that can only be done by hand, such as certain stitches and decorative techniques.
Also, the machinery being operated in textile factories is not equivalent to a domestic sewing machine. We’re talking about one of these guys:
See that gray cylinder under the table, behind the knee pedal? That’s the motor. These machines can sew through your fingers bones and all and not even stop. The people in these factories and sweatshops are operating heavy machinery, and are subject to all the risk that comes with that in addition to all of the work I mentioned above.
Please respect textile workers and continue the fight to eliminate the use of sweatshops and exploited labor in the fashion industry!
"Making peace with not transitioning because your partner wouldn't like it is valid" is an attempt at conversion therapy btw. Just so you know.
was talking to an ex friend once about being disabled and was like “yeah, the government wants me dead” to which she responded “noooo dont say thatttt that’s not true :( “ and i just need people to fucking think critically before saying something they think will be comforting because what the fuck do you mean the government doesn’t want disabled people dead have you never fucking heard of EUGENICS
its very simple. 1. Thought crimes aren't real.
If you find yourself confused on the morals of someone's thoughts, refer to step one. If you're still confused, block me. There is no nuance.
Let's talk about colonizer mindsets in the aspec community real quick:
By this I mean, the need to assert dominance over other sexualities and romantic orientations instead of focusing on the most marginalised aspecs and giving us the support and resources to battle multiple oppressions at once. This idea that being aspec gives you authority to attack or punch at people who do experience that form of attraction that you have little to none of because of amatonormativity, compulsory sexuality etc. and that it's 'punching up', even if the allo group is oppressed too.
Black aspec activism is grounded in community. Pretty much every Black aspec theorist ever has stated the fact that sex and romance are circumstantial. As Black people, we are shunned for both having sexual attraction and little to none of it, having romantic attraction and little to none of and so on and do forth. Black asexuals, Black aromantics, Black agender people etc. all share this white supremacist control of our bodies. It can never be simple binary of allo = oppressor, aspec = oppressed for us. It's vital that Black alloaces, Black aroaces, Black aroallos, Black non-SAM users and Black allorose people have shared solidarity because none of our sexualities are accepted under white supremacy.
But a LOT of aspec tumblr really doesn't wanna interrogate their anti allo sentiments, even when it harms alloaces and alloaros too. From the hip hop moral panic a lot of white asexuals had issues with coming to terms with the fact that Black allosexuals are still oppressed and refused to accept they could be antiblack to them. (Hell, some of them are still denying it to this day). Just today I've had issues with non-Black aroallos trying to make excuses towards acephobia towards alloaces even though our romo attraction isn't accepted bc we're ace (and some of us have a bunch of other identities on top of it too)
This is how we end up with things like anti-sex Black stripe asexuality groups and things like the Aro Manifesto saying romance is intrinsically oppressive and should be abolished.
Sex and romance are not protected classes. They are privileged and oppressed depending on the context they exist in. A white allosexual can participate in sexuality in a way a Black allosexual cannot. A straight alloromantic can participate in romance in a way that a lesbian alloromantic cannot. You can't really be anti allosexual, anti alloromantic or anti allorose in general without harming the 2nd groups, who are already oppressed. Some of you aren't actually looking for romantic and sexual freedom for all, you are seeking to control sex and romance in the same way your aspec identity is controlled and restricted and because of all your unpacked bigotry, you project this onto marginalised forms of sex and romance, including Black allorose people.
TL:DR - The solution to enforced cisheterosexual romance and sex will never be the abolition of sex and romance itself or to attack marginalised allo groups. It must be sexual and romantic freedom for everybody, the right to not have it *and* the right to have it. None of us are free until all of us are free etc etc.
