Based on the number of ratings each book has on Goodreads. And if you haven't read them, maybe you can use for a literature bucket list.
Anyone who says they’ve read all 1000 is a liar because one of them is a huge cookbook and no one is actively joy reading that.
with some of these it’s like “fuck, I did read that,” and with some it’s like “Oh fuck, I did read that.”
I got 99, but I counted a few that I had only mostly-read before deciding I didn’t like them and never finishing them.
302 but my undergrad degree was a theatre and English combo so all of the plays and most of the classics were a gimme.
435 but I did an English lit degree so I hit all the classics by default
3 phrases I have made sure to use during my time as a parent:
“I don’t know” - lets them know I’m human, I’m fallible, and that it’s okay to admit when you don’t know something, and when followed with “let’s find out” teaches them how to learn for themselves
“I’m sorry” - again I’m human, I make mistakes, but I’m not afraid to admit it and continue my own growth, letting them know that it’s okay to make mistakes as long as you learn from them
“Let me tell you why” - lets them know you’ve thought about your answer and that there is a reason for it, and the reason is usually for their benefit, letting them learn communication through your own
I have 3 children, now aged 26, 21, and 16, and I have lovely relationships with each of them. My two oldest call me frequently just because they miss me, and my 16 year old son ends every conversation with me telling me he loves me
I’m not a perfect parent by any stretch of the imagination, but my kids are wonderful human beings and we love each other very much, so I think I did okay!
(and an extra phrase used for teenagers when they start making decisions that you really don’t understand? “I’m glad you like it!” My eldest is covered head to toe in piercings and tattoos and every time she shows me a new one that’s my reply!)
