While talking with @hffghhf , I came up with the theory about Milton Grimm and the Grimm brothers in general that I think covered almost all of the plot holes
Milton and Giles are the original Grimm brothers. They were from an aristocratic family in the world of narrators, but then some kind of revolution occurred, and they were stripped of their power and banished to live as characters in their own stories. Since they were the ones who wrote those fairytales, they helped the first generation of fairytales to escape the darker endings of Grimm stories and gain their trust. Then people began seeing them as some kind of prophets sent by God (since they knew how the stories were going to unfold, which to them was essentially like seeing the future), and because of that, they had the loyalty and gratitude of most royal families. Now, this is the part where them being fallen aristocrats comes in; they still yearn for that power they once had. So what do they do? Start spreading some kind of propaganda, creating the fairytale cult "if you don't do as we say, you are going to disappear! poof! " shit. And those first royals were convinced brothers were there to save them from their demise. (And the brothers were pretty convincing in their roles.)
In the meantime, as they rose to power, Milton realized that the only thing in their way to eternal power and control in that world was death, so he did not want to die if it meant giving up all the power so he made a deal with someone/something of higher power(some kind of devil or demon) to grant him and his brother immortality. But during the third or fourth generation of fairytales, Giles gained some kind of conscience and thought, "you know what? Maybe what we're doing is wrong," and Milton was like, " fuck Giles, do you have to ruin everything?" and off Giles goes to the basement.Ā That explains Milton's God complex.
Now here are some answers to the good question @hffghhf asked:
-How did he convince the Swan family to repeat their story since it ended in tragedy anyway?
He manipulated the first two or three generations of swans while pretending to be someone who genuinely wants to help them while they are grieving, at least for long enough to fake someone going poof (he killed them) to scare people into obedience.
-How can some of these characters be the direct descendants of the characters in the stories when a lot of them died in their original stories?
Initially, only descendants of the relative were chosen as the new villain, but later, Grimm would take on some poor soul who he decided would be perfect to fill the role of the dead character (he needed someone with similar abilities as the dead character or someone who could be easily manipulated and groomed into doing what he wanted)
-Are the gods (Greek mythology) real beings who just travel into stories because of the stories told about them, or are they āfictionalā beings from myths and legends, just like the other characters?
Greek mythologyĀ has its own realm set somewhere in ancient grace cus 1. they are gods and they can do what they want 2. People actually believed in myths since it was part of their culture and religion, while it's well known (to people outside ever after) that fairytales are made-up stories meant to teach us valuable life lessons.
But I think that they just coexist, and Grimm is careful who he lets in from Greek mythology, because he knows he is, after all, not a god and cannot go toe-to-toe with them.
It was mentioned that the portal between Mount Olympus and ever after was opened after a lot of years (maybe centuries), so I guess that means that Grimm had an incident with a higher deity and was put in his place for some time, so he closed the portal for his sake.
(Aphrodite probably saw the whole " you must marry who your destiny chooses," and after several failed attempts of sending her children and grandchildren to ever after to restore love, it was like " fuck these people are helpless," and then she heard something about rebelling and was like 'CUPID COME QUICK BEFORE THEY CHANGE THEIR MIND')
