lot of people are going to be sent careening three posts down their dash and crashing into a brick wall because of this post
i will never not reblog this!
This ground is old…un burdened…sacred…
everyone who sees this must reblog
god left in 2012
did I see ao3 in there?!?
oh and I agree anyone who sees this post needs to reblog it
holy shit this post
It’s the one.. the one we’ve only ever heard about in legends(yt shorts)…
Zombie setting where the undead are drawn towards unhygienic scents, so survivors constantly bathe to avoid being eaten.
Zombies are docile when adorned with flowers.
Settlements overgrown with herbs and flora.
Barely any banditry; everyone is focused on farming and gathering.
Different human factions and towns named after flowers like Lilies, Orchids, Roses, etc.
Instead of immediately killing an infected survivor, they’re given special funeral rites - the zombie is covered with flowers to keep them calm, and allowed to walk out from the settlement to join the hordes.
#this makes me curiously sad #the idea of flowers covering the undead #that symbol of human love is what makes them docile
me to zombies:
Thank you all for the responses!!!! I got a few more notes to share from folks asking me about this setting :D
It’s incredibly risky to attack zombies. The scent of the attacker’s aggressive intent coupled with spilled pungent rotten blood drives other zombies into a frenzy.
Zombies given funeral rites grow flowers within their bodies, eventually bursting from their chest and head area. These zombies are naturally gentle and their presence tames other zombies in the vicinity. Due to their helpfulness, it’s taboo to harm “blooming” undead:
Sweaty summers are the worst and everyone hopes they have enough dried flowers to last the winter.
It’s a colourful apocalypse! An overabundance of flowers in the world leads to plenty of dyes and busy little honey bees!! Scented candles are a thriving export.
Survivors who help spread flowers, look after “blooming” undead, cull the hordes, and herd zombies away from safe areas are affectionately called Florists.
Regular weapons such as guns and knives are still used but everyone prefers perfumed water guns, spray bottles, and incense.
Zombies are so overwhelmed by the pleasant scent of rain that entire hordes cease movement until it’s gone.
PLEASE CHECK OUT THE FLORIST AHHHHHHHHHHHHH
I saw your blooming undead thingy and I fell in live but like
I yearn and desire to know more so hit me with everything about it we already have PLEASE PLEASE PLEASE /lh
And also, question: how do Florists herd the undead away? Do they lure them away with bad scents (eg. Throwing a dirty sock far away, idk) or do they physically guide them off the premises
Thank you!! It's so nice to hear folks still interested in this idea :D
The world of The Blooming Dead for me is more empathetic to the deceased, so Florists lure zombie herds similar to event organizers getting people to and from places (at a distance ofc so nobody gets bit or grabbed). Careful shepherding ensures straggler zombies aren't left behind, trampled by other zombies, caught by the environment, bodies damaged by bumping into things etc.
I think there would be some type of foul incense or candle that would attract the undead, that way Florists could control both the scent's duration and potency. If a dirty sock was used it could possibly attract wayyy too many zombies to the location for a long time, and some zombies may react badly to it too :O
For large hordes or unpredictable undead, blooming dead zombies are brought in to calm everyone down, especially if the blooming zombie was previously a Florist themself :)
*Ulterior Motives starts playing*
I saw this comic panel and was inspired. I wonder what horrors he will encounter :)
kids of color, you’re allowed to get a bitey when a white friend does something racist. literally 0 percent of people of color are obligated to be nice and palatable for white people. holding your tongue in the name of kindness doesn’t really do much in regards to stuff like this because white people are going to see you calling out their own racism as unkind anyways. white people, if a person of color comes off as aggressive while calling you out for racism, just fucking listen to them. they’re not coming from nowhere, and believe it or not: they know more about racism than you do! shocker, i know. just thickskin it, because it’s really not about you.
white ppl can rb but keep your damn mouths shut
So uh, what really happened after Fort Hateno?
My guess? This overtly depressing exchange.
But it’s okie because we know what happens a hundred years later... right right??
Maybe still a little depressing lol.

World Heritage Post
"I don't dance."
I was half asleep daydreaming and I came up with the most cracky idea
Shane has been in face offs against Ilya for years, even if they didn't have their thing of the ice, he knows his face by memory. Which is why he notices when a mole in the underside of his jaw gets bigger.
It's the 2015-2016 season, middle of the hookup era, and he is trying to get this motherfucker to see a dermatologist, but nothing he says works. Ilya either distracts him or dismisses him with some stupid denial like russians don't get melanoma.
But the mole keeps changing and now its not even the same consistent color and Shane has googled the signs so he says fuck it, I'm gonna make him.
Shane uses his barely active public account to tweet a list of Boston based dermatologist and tags Ilya in each one.
This of course goes crazy with the fans because what the hell? Shane Hollander? Tweeting at Ilya Rozanov? Doctors? This is a very advanced very strange chirp? Is he calling his moles ugly?
The next time the Boston Raiders have a game the media scrum doesn't even try to pretend they came for another thing, they want to know about the Dermatologist Thread.
Ilya, at this point frustrated because his moles are fine, they're perfect, why is this a problem, so he answers.
"Hollander should mind his own businesses, he wants me to visit stupid skin doctor because he sees mole. I have lots of moles, always had, there's no problem here, it's normal mole!"
And Shane is getting out of his own game a few hours later, prepares himself to answer about the fumble in the second period when the media comes, and it's surprised when, instead, he gets shown a clip of Ilya's earlier interview. Now, this fucking reckless motherfucker, Shane explodes.
"You fucking asshole! You want to die by driving a Porsche into a wall be my guest! But you're gonna die of the most stupid thing in existence! A MOLE! A mole you decided not to check even if it changed size and color and it's in your fucking face where we can all see it every fucking face off with arena lights shining right into it! Why? Because you're stupid and you don't want to go to the doctor and you don't respect the sun. You're gonna die from a perfectly preventable thing and then what am I gonna do? I'm gonna be the best hockey player in mi generation with 10 cups and Harts and Conn Smythes and no competition because you're gonna be in the history books as that one promising dude who died from a mole. A mole! Go to the fucking doctor and use your fucking sunscreen."
That one goes viral. That one breaches containment and goes internacional meme viral.
Shane Hollander Skin Cancer Awareness King.
There's "Go to the fucking doctor and use your fucking sunscreen" T-Shirts.
Shane Hollander angry sneering face with the text "RESPECT THE SUN" under it.
Ilya Rozanov gets bullied relentlessly about it, everyone asking if he has gone to the doctor yet. He doesn't answer. Eventually, he appears with a new scar in his jaw where a wonky mole used to be.
A new meme begins, Shane Hollander has saved Ilya Rozanov's life. From a malignant mole.
Marvel Family Thoughts
Mary: book smart; she has the most stable education and we see that she was good enough to get onto the spelling bee, so she is likely best at memorization learning that is most encouraged in school and is good for tests. She probably had a very artsy english teacher one year that she hated because they kept telling her that her essays were "too clinical, you need to express better what you truly mean" and thought the whole thing was bullshit if there is no direct right answer.
Billy: puzzle smart; he is a reporter so he is good at drawing connections from a bunch of facts and seeing patterns. If he went to school I think he'd be good at word problems in math, but still struggle with the formula stuff. I also think he would like social studies (its like history for people outside of Canada) where the point is to find connections and figure out the driving forces, he probably wouldn't like the formulaic structure of essays but would do great with presentations and just yapping at his teacher if they are chill (shout out Mr. B!)
Freddy: actionable smart; he is more act first, but I think that leads to him being the most common sense oriented. He does a thing, sees what happened and reacts accordingly. He learns best with hands-on learning and does great on labs.
In summary:
[trying to open a chest]
Mary: lists off common lock combinations like a year important to them
Billy: connects it to the many photos of a child in the house so they need to find out that kid's birthday
Freddy: jiggles the lock that is so old it easily snaps off, no pass code needed
They all think that they are the smart one. Its like the thank god I'm the only sane one.
Freddy thinks he is the normal one because he doesn't have the Batson disregard for silly things like your own mortality when they have their mind set on something as Freddy desperately tries to stop them from accidentally killing themself.
Mary thinks she is the normal one because she was raised in a mostly stable environment so she has some basic knowledge on life stuff that the other two never learnt.
Billy thinks he is the normal one because he is not on the edge of committing violence the way Mary and Freddy are as they argue with everyone about everything.
Basically:
Imagine the 118 are still being iify about Bobby's cooking since he's passed, that nobody really wants to eat Buck's cooking, and it really hurts him. Like it's the only thing Buck can do to keep his memory, and something that he and Bobby used to do.
He's trying his best to cope, and cooking and baking help. He doesn't want to upset the others, and if they don't need Buck to cook, then he's not going to bother. It breaks his heart, and the other firefighters in the 118 look put out.
He's scrolling through social media, until a post on his Facebook pops up. Someone is asking for help at a soup kitchen; the person who used to help is no longer available, and they really need it. It's for a good cause.
Something bubbles up in Buck. A need.
So Buck messages the woman, who readily accepts Buck's help. He's had experience cooking in mass quantities, thanks to Bobby needing his help in the kitchen so he can feed the other firefighters.
Buck meets the people running the soup kitchen. He greets everyone, gets handed an apron, and is immediately sent to the kitchen to help prep.
He goes there often when they need help. He doesn't have anything going on right now. Nobody to spend time with and a house that feels too lonely. Coming here brings a smile to his face. He chatters with everyone, goes around to the homeless, and chatters with the old folk. They love his company.
He loves watching everyone eat and enjoy the food. Even though he didn't cook all of it.
Bobby would be proud.
"How have you been, sweetie?" Buck hears something suddenly. He jumps a little as he turns to see one of the ladies who runs the place. A very old lady in her eighties, small but still standing tall and strong.
"Oh, I'm doing alright. Thank you for letting me come in and help all the time."
"Hm. You know, in all my years, you and one other man were the only ones to thank me, when it should be the other way around."
Buck ducks his head down.
"You and your father are a lot alike."
Buck freezes. Confused, he looks over at her. "Uh, what do you mean?"
She smiles and waves for him to follow her. She leads him to a hallway, the front entrance that the others use, while volunteers enter through the back. So he really never saw the hallways. It was filled with pictures of people, mayors, police, etc., who came out and helped. The soup kitchen came out during the Tsunami to help feed displaced people.
She takes him to one of the biggest contributors to her soup kitchen.
And there he was. Bobby.
"Your dad spoke of you a lot. Showed pictures, so we recognized you right away."
"He...he came here?"
"Oh yes. He's helped us a lot for so many years. We were so heartbroken upon hearing the devastating news. I'm so sorry you lost your daddy," she says so softly. The hand is rubbing his back as he sobs.
He didn't know when he started crying. Perhaps it was seeing a photo of Bobby again, smiling. Smiling while in the kitchen.
Maybe it was the woman's gentle hand, and calling Bobby his dad.
Maybe it was because Bobby spoke about Buck a lot.
"I miss him so much," he says, as he's gathered in a hug. As small as the lady was, she gave a tight hug.
"I know, dearie. It'll be alright. You're making him so proud right now. You came here as if it were meant to be."
Buck sniffs, wiping his eyes, and beams a smile at her.
"Now, do you think you are able to make your dad's chili? Your dad always made a big pot once a month. A lot of our patrons here miss it."
"Yes!" Buck says. "I know exactly how to make it."
"Oh, perfect! Come along now, sweetie, let's get to work."
The Centaurs do a cute, funny "Ice Hockey Players Try Figure Skating" 3 part video series for their Youtube, with Shane's figure skater friend Joe and some others guest starring as instructors.
Of course it's the expected mixture of precious wholesomeness, endearing dumbassery, athletes hyping each other up,and pure, unfiltered chaos!!
Everyone is having a blast, dangerously enthusiastic, and supportive of each other. Predictably Hollanov take turns being overly competitive, and unreasonably horny about the entire thing.
The break out stars are Haasy, LaPointe, Barrett, Shane,and...Ilya.
At the end of the 3rd video after the official credits, a compilation of short clips plays - the footage is clearly from the 80s,digitalized from the original format, it features a beautiful, gifted Olympic figure skater with blonde curly hair and hazel eyes competing for the Soviet Union - it's a young Irina Rozanova under her maiden name. Some of the clips show her on the ice - all except one in competitions, others receiving various medals. The compilation ends with a final very short clip: Irina, now a little older but still looking painfully young, elegant in fur and graceful as ever,on an outdoor ice rink not in Moscow but Saint Petersburg, skating carefully, playfully around in small circles holding an adorably bundled up,delighted toddler Ilya in her arms.
The series is dedicated to Irina.
Bonus clip compilation on the Cents Insta: Ilya teaching or just goofing around/playing with various tiny humans on and of the ice - kids of team mates,at Alls Stars, the hockey camps, and finally Ilya and Shane holding little Amber Pike's small gloved hands as they skate together on a frozen lake courtesy of Jackie Pike.
Personally I hate AI because it uses slave labor, is killing the planet and is making people stupid, but that's just me. The soulless art aspect is just one little piece of my grander disdain.
wait how does AI use slave labor? Do you mean the human works that are stolen and not credited or compensated? Because technically under capitalism everything is exploited but there are varying degrees
Aside from the scraping, AI tech companies, including openAI/chatGPT, have outsourced training their models to countries in the global south, specifically Kenya in openAI's case. These workers are working in sweatshop conditions for less than 2 bucks USD per hour. I'm on mobile, but if you search 'openAI Kenya slave labor' and related keywords, you can find multiple articles about it.
Training AI takes a heavy toll on Kenyan workers, who say they earned $2 an hour to label and sift through gruesome content for American com
