Psych wards making you relinquish your belongings and comforts isn't just that. It's a robbery of your humanity, your sense of self and even your purpose. It's a stripping of you. A torturous experience that makes you count the moments for your freedoms again. It's incarceration. It's a nightmare added to the nightmare that brought you there. People are afraid of vocalising this. Somewhere down the line of basically being stripped naked, people are stripped of the will to speak the truth of it all. While you are torn from your basic necessities, you get torn from yourself in the sense that you can't feel like yourself. Because it's never about just your pillows, just your blankets, just your plushies. It's about dehumanization originating from very old practises.
