So yesterday I had a 5am workout followed by taking the kids to school and then a 9:30 ballet class and getting the kids from school and then teaching classes until 7:45. I use this as a progress report for myself. So today comes with stupid baggage that needs to get dumped. My mind was busy with other stuff other then what I was doing... But at some point the stretch takes over and there is nothing left over but checking in with the self...body, breath kinds deep stuff. I like that point. Your hands take the shape of what they would look like if you were holding a cupcake upside down. Give it a try 😀 . . 🤕Let's discuss why the top picture is the wrong way to support the hand: 👎The fingers are resting which means that the weight is not evenly spread throughout the hand. 👎Because the weight isn't evenly spread, it is dumped onto the wrists 👎The forearm is not in line with the wrist, which could cause the weight to be dumped in the wrist. 👎Often times, along with these issues, the shoulders are likely to be shrugged instead of open. . . 😍Now let's discuss to two different style of #cupcakehands . In both styles, the forearms should ideally be in line or behind the wrist. . . 1️⃣ On the left ↖️↖️ The very tips of the fingers rest on the mat just for support for minimal body weight as we keep the body upright. This style will be mostly used in parts of #sunsalutation and for poses such as #Dandasana , #marichyasana , #uttanasana #lowlunge and during warm-up. . . 2️⃣ On the right ↗️↗️ The fingers are pressing down keeping the hand and wrist active as the body uses it to help keep us balanced and upright. This style will be mostly used for poses such as #halfmoon #standingsplits #sugarcanepose and many side bend and twist poses. . . For 👐 hand PRESSING 👐 in poses such as #Downwardfacingdog #upwardfacingdog #crow #handstand other arm balances and inversions, please see my older post about where the weight of the hand should be as you press. 👇👇 . .
