Sometimes I see takes on here about Tori Spring's portrayal in Solitaire and I'm like "Did we even read the same book?"

This girl is not a one-note depressed apathetic pessimist, she is such a rich and nuanced character designed to show you, the reader, that you too can still love and care and be curious and get excited and make friends and tell jokes and fall in love, even with mental health issues, even when you are confused and frustrated and battling low self esteem and depression. Sometimes you think you want to die but then you choose to live. That's what Solitaire is about. That's what Tori Spring is about. That is why I love her.

okay! major spoilers for Stranger Things season 5 vol 1 below.

I’m probably gonna yap about this more but here is my initial reaction. it’s long and truly a collection of random thoughts so read at your own risk

first of all, best part by far is the duo of Will and Robin. yeah, I miss Robin and Steve, but we’ve gotten a ton of their dynamic and I’m enjoying seeing Robin help Will through his journey of self discovery! genuinely her monologue about Tammy made me cry and connecting that to the end and Will tapping into the hive mind to connect with Vecna’s powers (which I loved by the way) was so fucking powerful. AND Robin is with Vicky which is so lovely because Robin deserves something good in her life

I feel like I’m gonna receive hate for this, but I still am not feeling Byler. I’m not feeling Mileven either though! Mileven I think I don’t love because El has spent off of her time since being kept in a lab hiding from the government and escaping monsters. she’s not even entirely fluent in English yet! she needs to figure out who she really is, as an independent person before she gets involved in a relationship. Now, later could her and Mike end up together? maybe. but right now is too soon.

Byler I’m not feeling because I really read Robin’s speech to Will as a “it’s not about Mike” sort of thing. and it’s not! she described how she looked in someone else to try to avoid facing her own feelings and identity. Will is doing the same thing with Mike. what Will needs to do is stop focusing on Mike, who I don’t think likes Will back, and start focusing on himself. besides, he doesn’t need Mike, he’s got fucking powers. and anyway, even if they do try to make Byler a thing, I feel like that wouldn’t give it the time it deserves. considering how much already needs to be wrapped up in the show, I feel like it would be rushed.

not gonna lie, while the beginning was fun and all, I was kind of feeling like it made the end of season 4 anti-climatic. like, yeah, we just covered it in metal. no one knows that there’s monsters still. it felt like that time jump took a step back from where we were at the end of season 4.

also Jonathan should just go ahead and propose to Nancy because Steve is lowkey pissing me off. love him with all my soul, but he doesn’t need to be still pining over Nancy. he deserves a better plot then that.

what I DO like about Steve is his thing going with Dustin though. I’m devastated to see them argue, but also I feel like it adds more depth to their relationship. especially with Dustin, since he’s got a lotta shit going on.

how dare those bullies hurt Dustin even though the scenes kind of made me laugh a little too. it’s okay though, because I think it’s better than the El bullying last season.

I’m not really sure why El and Hop are killing random government people, and I feel like El is a little detached from like everyone besides Hop right now, buuut otherwise no complaints from them.

Max and Holly are so sweet! they’re a really cute duo. Max should like escape soon, so she can reunite with Lucas and whatever. because they’re one of the bestttt shipsss on the showww

I just honestly really don’t. I am curious what they have to do with her though.

they lowkey should have killed Karen or Ted. especially if it was Karen it would have been sad, but it also would have helped set the tone better.
