Today's Girl Genius:
So we're counting it, now. Twenty minutes for the escape sequence, which Klaus had BETTER be on, because he's not allowed to explode his way out of his children yelling at him. (Especially as "blew up with Castle Wulfenbach" is one of the few things I don't think even the triumvirate could resurrect him from.)
Also, we haven't seen Zoing in a while. Is he okay? Has he successfully escaped from the airship, on an escape vehicle that WASN'T full of wasped Black Squad members? Can he get hugs, seeing as he's had a very stressful day and his home's about to explode?
"he's not allowed to explode his way out of his children yelling at him" is both an excellent way to phrase it and so very, very cosigned.
...I wonder if Zoing has ever been off Castle Wulfenbach before?
What always gets me about learning about settler colonialism is how once you learn about it you cannot unsee the violence to the land itself. My home state was previously nearly 100% wetlands, apart of the wider Ohio river valley whose biodiversity supported such large populations of hundreds of different species that many contemporary source from settlers describe it as like the garden of Eden.
The Indigenous people who farmed and hunted here (and still farm and hunt in what land they have been able to keep and reclaim) were able to grow miles of upon miles of crops with multiple harvests a year, encouraging this biodiversity by creating forest gardens with incredible amounts of food from staples like corn and squash to local fruits like pawpaws to European imports like apples alongside controlled burns which allowed fields and buffalo ranges to expand.
Nowadays my state is known almost exclusively for its fields of nothing but corn and soy beans. Driving through in between the comparatively small cities you'll see nothing but fields where the plethora of different trees and plants were chopped down mile by mile, the remaining wetlands drained and flattened, and the rich black soils robbed of their nutrients through decades upon decades of monocrop agriculture now preserved through the life blood of petrochemical fertilizers which destroy the surrounding environment.
This process was done mile by mile as the tens of thousands of Indigenous people were killed and displaced by settlers and the US army, the land measured and sold acre by acre to white settlers who raped the land as described, filling the pockets of wealthy land speculators (like George Washington and Thomas Jefferson) who bought the land directly from the government in schemes so corrupt historians have dedicated entire careers to mapping out their dramas.
It's like learning about commodity fetishism and suddenly seeing hundreds of strangers in the products that surround you. Once you learn how the land was destroyed for profit you'll never look at the miles of fields or the cracks in the concrete of buildings built on wetlands or the stench of now obsolete canals built solely for a once boat-dependent economy with no care for the environment the same.
The reveal that higgs was, against his will, becoming mildly obsessed with zeetha over the course of their time in the castle always tickles me. since we never get much of any interiority for him and he'd rather eat glass than show outward emotion to people he doesn't know i always imagine it mentally going something like this for him
I love Klaus Wulfenbach. He's such a fantastic character.
No but like. Most of the Jagers worked FOR Klaus for many, many years. Klaus might have more personal, thorough, continuous experience managing Jagers than anyone else alive (who is not themselves a Jager, or architecture of dubious ethics). There is NO even partway-legitimate-or-plausible criticism of the Jagers that Lucrezia could possibly blurt out, which would not have already crossed Klaus's mind during his lengthy stint as The Guy Left Holding The Bag (i.e. the bill for property damage, etc.) In The Post-Jager-Induced-Shenanigans Dust Cloud. For years.
(Incidentally, I have just now decided that if the Jagergenerals ever gave thought to fitting their until-we-have-a-Heterodyne-again deal with Klaus into their existing framework for Jager power structures, I don't believe any of them ever seriously pictured Klaus as like, a "substitute/temporary Heterodyne". No way. Instead, given Klaus's credentials, history as a friend and companion to Bill & Barry, and personal capabilities, I think maybe they might have privately extended a very temporary and conditional "hokay, let's all pretend like you're an extra Jagergeneral. For now. We'll listen to you because you happen to have access to knowledge and resources that the rest of us don't, just like we would listen to one Jagergeneral who'd obtained critical intel that the rest of the Jagerkin didn't have." Which ALSO makes me wonder if Klaus would have ever earned the honor of a hat if not for the canon plot, and if not, what specific deed of Klaus's would have disqualified him. But I digress.)
So Klaus might be up there thinking "Hey now. Don't you go disrespecting my former employees. Maybe YOU don't understand how to make workable plans that allow for Jagers-being-Jagers without falling apart, but that's a You Problem. Skill Issue. Get wrenchbonked about it."

this is from the 2000’s btw
Looks like @staff mistakenly censored this comic, which is an ironic and very funny thing to happen
Here it is again. You might want to save it just in case an accident like that happens again
EDIT: HMM. LOOKS LIKE OP WAS BANNED TOO. WHAT A FUNNY. IRONIC. ACCIDENT
- Very good.
This is the type of film that the phrase “glorious technicolor” was invented for - look at the richness of the colours!
To say nothing of a phrase that gets used in this house a bit too often…
ok so this is The Court Jester with Danny Kaye and it is the best fucking movie i swear. It’s a comedy musical robin hood parody thing about an incompetent moron and his extremely competent ass-kicking girlfriend taking down a tyrannical king and restoring the throne to the rightful heir
-the rightful heir is a baby and they can tell it’s the right baby because of a giant birthmark on his asscheek
-the main character’s only talent is singing and the rest of the pseudo robin-hood group just kinda tolerate him because he repeatedly fucks up
-he gets hypnotized into believing he is this amazing swashbuckling sword fighting hero along the lines of Wesley from the Princess Bride and ends up fighting the villain while snapping in and out of hypnosis
-the vessel with the pestle has the pellet with the poison, the chalice with the palace has the brew that is true “what”
-he stumbles his way through the entire plot and never knows what the hell is going on
-Danny Kaye is the funniest motherfucker you’ve never heard of
-seriously go watch it you wan’t regret it
#yea verily yea ( @lessthansix)
And a fun tidbit from the filming was that Danny Kaye had never fenced before this film, so he was trained by Basil Rathbone’s stunt double who was also the fight coordinator. Kaye got so proficient so quickly, that Rathbone himself had to do most of the duel scenes between them as the fight coordinator eventually couldnt keep up with him on the more technical parts of the fight. If you watch closely, you can see that Rathbone stays on camera doing the fencing for a much larger percentage of time than he normally did by that point in his career, and Kaye does all but a couple of shots of his own fencing, because HIS double couldnt keep up and make it believable.
Happy pride month everyone
Hey. Why isn’t the moon landing a national holiday in the US. Isn’t that fucked up? Does anyone else think that’s absurd?
It was a huge milestone of scientific and technological advancement. (Plus, at the time, politically significant). Humanity went to space! We set foot on a celestial body that was not earth for the first time in human history! That’s a big deal! I’ve never thought about it before but now that I have, it’s ridiculous to me that that’s not part of our everyday lives and the public consciousness anymore. Why don’t we have a public holiday and a family barbecue about it. Why have I never seen the original broadcast of the moon landing? It should be all over the news every year!
It’s July 20th. That’s the day of the moon landing. Next year is going to be the 54th anniversary. I’m ordering astronaut shaped cookie cutters on Etsy and I’m going to have a goddamn potluck. You’re all invited.
Hey. Hey. Tumblr. Ides of March ppl. We can do this
Hell yeah moon holiday
Ooh coming up we should celebrate
PITCH: We call it Moon Day, and then every 7 years when it falls on a Monday, that's an even BIGGER deal and we call that Moon Day Monday and go absolutely apeshit about it (the next Moon Day Monday is in 2026 so we have a couple trial runs first)
MOON DAY MOON DAY MOON DAY
moon day is 20th July!!!
Scheduling this a day earlier to remind you all and myself about the Moon Day tomorow!
I scheduled this is 2025 to give you all a week to make Moon Day Monday preparations! I think I will order a little rocket cake or bake some moon phase cookies!

i'm in love with an emo girl 🖤
it really is quite bad for your military to have an image of itself as a warrior class. what you really want is for your soldiers to think of themselves as boring professionals who will fill out a report form if someone gets a little too warrior ethos out there
I made a new flyer for my research project 📋
LINK TO THE SURVEY
The survey will be open until at least the end of 2026 if not beyond. Only these 14 measurements are required, all the others are optional:
If you have been on HRT for at least 3 years, have half an hour and a measuring tape, consider taking the survey!
If you don't qualify or don't feel up to participating feel free to share it :)
I will also be at various UK pride events this summer either walking around with a sign handing out flyers or having a stall where people can come get measured in person! Come say hi :)
PSA to read our documentation and FAQ if you have questions as they tend to already be covered in there :)
"best tags to wake up to" award goes to this person today:
*tucks hair behind ear* complimenting my methodology, shucks! why thank you, I ran trans support groups for 3 years and work as a data professional lmao (also again I have to stress, I am not officially affiliated with any of the groups they're referring to, any support is informal and the uni funding we received is seed funding from an incubator programme, not actual research funding)
There is actually a copy of the questionnaire in the documentation! I have now linked it in the participation information so it's easier to find in future :)
I reblogged this last night and was very excited, and after having gone through the questionnaire I’m even MORE excited. I haven’t been on hrt long enough to participate myself, but what I do have is a fashion design degree and years of pattern drafting experience.
The measurements asked for here are thorough, and specifically useful for pattern drafting. I usually use Armstrong’s system for drafting and there are several crucial measurements that are Necessary if you’re doing custom drafting but that aren’t typically thought of if you haven’t done patterning yourself (clavicle to waist! shoulder tip to waist!!! Even one of those makes my life SO much easier but OP put BOTH).
OP absolutely knows what he’s doing here and this data is going to open an insane amount of doors. A lot of the issues indie patternmakers face with drafting for plus sizes is establishing their own grading rules and testing them, because while standard sizes may be covered in drafting books like Armstrong’s, plus sizes are harder to come by. And most pattern companies are loathe to give up their own charts when it’s usually taken a lot of trial and error to set their own rules. And that’s just with plus sizes—this is the first effort I’ve seen to establish standard sizing for trans bodies like… ever. And to have it be planned to be free and accessible data? Literally insane. I’m imagining the possibilities and feeling giddy.
"I love you. ...That was for the potatoes, not for you."
I am now in debt to someone I have never met before
If you did this to a human they wouldn’t like it but potatoes aren’t even remotely scared of this

Happy Moon Landing Day! ❤️👩🚀🌛
One of the best letters I’ve ever seen just popped up on my Facebook memories. Still makes me laugh.
As today is the 50th anniversary of the moon landing, it’s a great time to revisit Dinah from Devon’s memory of this historic event. And yes, still makes me laugh.
Today is the 54th anniversary of the moon landing, but Dinah’s diary entry is still absolutely magnificent.
57th anniversary of the moon landing and the best diary entry in the history of diary entries. Sit down Samuel Pepys, it’s over. UGH.
