Hi folks!

I'm just your normal, random, disabled, butch lesbian, space scientist hiding from that for some Tumblr chaos.

Currently, I am working on allowing myself to unashamedly love things that I love once again. I have been a devout follower of Hugo's Les Misérables and the musical adaptation since 2014, and I relate too much with the character of Jean Valjean (but I will probably write an essay about that sometime…).

In terms of books, I am most interested in fantasy and science fiction, but I personally prefer hard science fiction over a mix of fantasy-sci-fi. My favorite book series is the Inheritance Cycle by Christopher Paolini, and I am also a big fan of Andy Weir's The Martian and Project Hail Mary. I am (somewhat unfortunately) also a lover of the Throne of Glass series (minus smut--sorry!) and the very under-appreciated The War Eternal series by Rob J. Hayes.

I wrote my first books when I was 10, 11, and 13, but they are too quaint for me to ever share. I am currently working on a science fiction book about the disruption and reconnection of a family, and I have been plotting that one out for quite a while. I have also been starting an epic fantasy series, but that one is on hold until I am able to finish the as-of-yet still unnamed sci-fi.

I have also been a game master for Dungeons and Dragons for the past twelve years and have been running the same game (now on our second campaign!) for the past decade. There is nothing better than telling silly and meaningful stories with your best friends who you met on Minecraft!

I also enjoy video games, with Mass Effect being by far my favorite narrative series. I am also an avid Minecrafter and have again been playing Stardew Valley lately. Unfortunately, I also suffer from enjoying Bethesda games with FO3/FONV and Skyrim as my favorites.

Sometimes, I write fanfiction, and sometimes, I write essays. I am working on doing both of those more!

Feeling cute. Thought I'd post a chapter instead of sleep.

Summary: Valjean, Le Loup, and Wood return to the Bagne.

Snippet: The last vestiges of the storm abated as the party neared the termination of Cap Garrone’s northern slope. Ahead of them, the land fell into a long, sloping arc that faded into the low-lands surrounding Toulon which extended to the Toulonnaise Mountains whose great, limestone cliffs stood watch over the valley below. 

     A wind had picked up—not the sharp, harsh wind that preceded one of those rare winter storms in Faverolles but one of those persistent winds that vanquishes the storm and ushers in clear skies. The pale grey clouds that heralded the impending end of the rain had been pushed aside by the wind and replaced by patchy, puffy clouds interspersed with glimmers of the blue sky behind them. The growing columns of sunlight illuminated the water-covered greenery as if it had been covered in uncountable rivulets of flowing glass.

The new definition of "planet" was at least partially influenced, I'm pretty sure, by the desire to designate a coherent category that could be applied to other solar systems whilst keeping the list of planets in our solar system as close to the familiar nine as possible. Dropping only one was as close as they could get.

I don't know. I'm still a bit salty about a tumblr poll I saw a year or two ago which asked "is Pluto a planet?" and the options were "yes" and "I have no joy or whimsy in my soul".

Because "joy and whimsy" = "all updates to things I learned in school are wrong" = "I can be right about everything without doing the work to expand my knowledge", I suppose.

You are correct! However, the current IAU system certainly has its issues as Mercury isn’t technically in hydrostatic equilibrium and you could argue that Venus isn’t? But really, the IAU just want ROUND

You can also successfully make the argument that, since Earth has regular meteor showers, it has not cleared its orbit (technically), so we aren’t on a planet.

Taxonomy is always a very messy thing!
