People believe them. They just don’t care.
My dad believed me. But he didn’t think it should ruin the guy’s life.
Because they’ve all done it in some form. Men believe these things are happening, they just don’t care.

i just think it's neat that odysseus gets put in a position where he has to kill his child to avoid going to war and he can't do it and then agamemnon gets put in a position where he has to kill his child to go to war and he does it
'For example, the shape we call a heart - whose symmetry resembles the vulva far more than the asymmetry of the organ that shares its name - is probably a residual female genital symbol. It was reduced from power to romance by centuries of male dominance'
Gloria Steinem's foreword in Eve Ensler's The Vagina Monologues
i think one of the worst things the left wing internet ever did was push the idea that oppression is basically a virtue, and being oppressed is a sign of your morality. it has made it like…impossible for some of you to hold the idea that most people are privileged in some ways and oppressed in others. AND a lot of you seem to have it in your mind that terrible people cannot be oppressed, and that oppressed people cannot do terrible things, which is a dangerous rhetoric to hold imo.
“if you think transwomen are a threat in female bathrooms you should just advocate for floor—to-ceiling individual cubicles” okay but we were fucking fine before bc women have super basic decency and respect for one another. but now, because you’re here, we can’t have a mutual trusting and safe space. now we all have to be high-security guarded against one another. now we gotta feel as though anyone around us could be a predator and we are entirely against the rest of the world.
taking female spaces away doesn’t just deprive women of safety, but also solidarity, dignity and trust. female spaces need to exist because men are consistently historically and statistically proven to be a threat, but also because women have been deprived the ability to exist and especially congregate without male supervision by all highly misogynistic societies, as women are safer and less vulnerable when they are together or know there are women who they can trust.
this obviously isn’t just about bathrooms. as it stands, in my country, women cannot form their own groups without a male being allowed in at any time. we are not allowed to formally congregate without male supervision.
“bathrooms are just where you pee and then come out!!” then use the male bathrooms if it matters that little. “but we might get assaulted” oh that’s crazy. imagine someone getting assaulted in a bathroom. i thought that never happens?? anyways, women and our spaces don’t exist to cushion male problems. you cannot remove the things we fought for the rights for because other males cause you problems.
yeah your boyfriend’s a stag now. yeah he accidentally saw diana bathing and she turned him into an animal so he can’t tell anyone what he’s seen. he’s still the same guy mentally though. oh look his dogs are running up to him. maybe they’ll recognize him that’ll make him feel better
hint: it wasn't idealized emotional connection
it's so insane that so many gay and bi people just accepted the queer label and now people will ask "are you queer?" like that's normal lmao. now straight people say it like it's nothing it's CRAZYYY imagine any other group being bullied into doing this.
This chapter will suggest as well the principal ways in which men account for and interpret public harassment. (...) Men who interpreted public harassment as politicized sometimes did so by envisioning it as a reaction to the women's movement, seeing it not as proof that they themselves were abusers in the street as well as the workplace, then, but as proof that, given women's current strident political stance, public harassment was a punishment well deserved and appropriately meted out.
Carol Brooks Gardner (1995): Passing by. Gender and public harassment. California. p. 160
libs comparing feminist anti-pornography beliefs to evangelical anti-pornography beliefs is so dumb because the evangelical approach is rooted in the idea that masturbation itself is a sin and a woman’s body belongs to her husband while the feminist approach is that a woman is not public property to be abused and raped on video for men to attain sexual gratification from. The feminist approach is ending the sex trade that provides victims to the pornography industry. These two beliefs are not similar when critical thinking is involved.

Bingo.
men inventing mythology: okay so we all agree BIRTH and MENSTRUATION is DISGUSTING!!!!! but also men can do it to but in a cool way. Right? WOM*N are disgusting and because of the goo and blood and birth and shit but ALSO wouldn't it be rad if men could have babies??? like what if when men bleed on the ground, that is babies? or if men could pop a baby our of their head that's, like, that's like having a baby. but in a cool and good way. not in a DISGUSTING, FILTHY WAY like our moms and wives.
a lot of transfems' posting about gendered socialisation makes it clear that they think it's something that they opt into/choose to participate in/have to enjoy to be affected by rather than something that happens to people from the time they are born. people start saying shit like "wow what a little flirt!" about baby boys before they've even developed object permanence. people have gendered expectations for babies based on their cries. mothers overestimate their infant sons' ability to crawl and underestimate their daughters' ability. these attitudes affect how people raise their children. these attitudes affect how children develop their attitudes towards themselves and others.
peers bullying you for your sensitivity, parents blowing up at you for liking Girl Things, boys saying you aren't really a boy because you're a pussy are things that happen to boys because they were born and raised male. being the world's sweetest most gentle and sensitive effeminate little child who never hurt a fly or did a misogyny doesn't make the male socialisation not exist. the socialisation one receives isn't an "I consent!" thing it's the way people treat you differently based on your gender. transitioning later in life doesn't magically stop wider society from being homophobic, transphobic & misogynistic and enforcing rigid expectations based upon this on anyone in society.
