@frankpanioncube
yeah katabasis has a pretty great understanding of hell so far
what is HAPPENING
Hey guys, with so much love, and as someone with an actual English degree:
Please just use Sparknotes if you're going to do this. I get it. I do. But chatgpt or other genAI shit doesn't actually know what's important for you to know, and in some cases it might fully make shit up. Use sparknotes. Failing that, talk to someone who did read it. I'm begging.
oh my god, there's whole books series that ALREADY do that. Have they never heard of the No Fear series published by Sparknotes? It puts a plain everyday english translation on the opposite page from the original text, plus character lists with descriptions and helpful commentary.
stop using AI for things that already exist!
Hell, the 'No Fear' series is pretty new to me; when I was coming up in my graduate studies Eng Lang/Lit programs and teaching Chaucer, Harvard did something called 'The Chaucer Project', which was basically exactly this: a translation starting with 'The Canterbury Tales' with a side-by-side translation online.
Even Wikipedia is a better resource for one than Chat GPT.

Update: after I reblogged this someone messaged me offering me tickets to the sold out Hausu screening with a Q&A and autograph session with the director
These never work for me, but here’s to trying.
I don’t believe in these things
But last time I reblogged one ten/fifteen minutes later I got a call offering me a job
But I reblogged it because I was waiting on hearing back from the job. So there you go.
Roger is cute.
Eh Roger is cute I might as well
That fish is so happy it makes me happy.
help me roger i need all the good luck i can get right now
When a student copies an essay online instead of writing it and then painstakingly changes every word to a synonym until the text no longer makes any sense...
call that the Ship of Thesaurus
Any educator who doesn't feel this on a visceral level has never had to experience the psychic pain of reading the phrase "Unused York City."
A lecturer at Middlesex University in 2014, Chris Sadler, coined the term "Rogetism" for these. Perhaps the best:
Source.
I'm trying to hide my plagiarism but the clapping of my sinister buttocks keeps alerting the lecturer
I wish wizards were real so bad imagine coming out of a wal mart and seeing some guy with long robes and a big hat in the parking lot surrounded by wacky particle effects screaming some shit like "By the moon and the starlight, by the shield and the sword, I summon to me, my Honda Accord!" And then just getting into his car and driving off
so there's basically two reasons he would need to do this and they're both funny
his magical honda unsummoned while he was in Walmart; this means it's not even a real car and could look like anything and he picked or was forced somehow to pick a Honda Accord
his normal honda was left someplace while he came to Walmart by other means, and he can teleport the car to him more easily than he can teleport himself places
there's also the idea that he drove to walmart in his honda accord, and then when he got out he either forgot where he parked or wanted to skip like 20 seconds of walking so he just summons it right in front of the door
To not have to find a parking space, most wizards keep their Honda Accords in a extradimensional oubliette when not driving. This also saves on garage space.
Clearly the wizard had to summon his Honda Accord because someone stole it while he was shopping. The carjacker is now tumbling violently down the freeway like a source engine ragdoll
See, I was gonna suggest that the Honda Accord was left at home because he teleported over to pick up a soda, but remembered he needed groceries... But, the previous idea is way funnier.
Look, you wanna get the shopping done, your car wants a drink at the pub with the lads, sometimes you just gotta divide and conquer.
I want to suggest that the SUV glamour is because the Sorcerer in question is a single dad who legit has to ferry around his teenage kids
me, unloading a fitted sheet from the dryer: *squinting* what's that you've got in your mouth
fitted sheet: nothing :)))))))
me, prying open its twisted jaws: na-ah!!! give it to me RIGHT now!!
fitted sheet: *resentfully spits out a wad of 3 very damp dishtowels, a pillowcase, and a pathetically sodden washcloth*
I try and avoid engagementbait when I can but look at his EYES
the contrabass saxophone is such an absurd instrument
talk dirty to me
Have ya’ll seen the double contrabass flute before???
reblogging my own post because what in the fuck
i give you the contrabass tuba. Why is it real. I dont know.
Know what’s even better?
HYPERBASS FLUTE
my counter:
piccolo trombone
I’m both glad and sad that string players are only limited to violin, viola, cello, and bass. Can you imagine a contrabass? Or a piccolo violin????
String players are not limited to just those.
I present, THE OCTOBASS
It’s so big that it needs keys to hit the strings.
And in the reverse direction there exists the Pochette. Translated from French, it means pocket, as it was a pocket sized violin like instrument.
This is amazing
someone post the archlute
This one?
Subcontrabass C ocarina
Legend of Zelda: The Subcontrabass Ocarina of Time
this is my favorite post i think i’ve reblogged it like 4 times
I present to you, the Contrabass recorder.
We have to keep reblogging this so future historians will read it and puzzle endlessly over its meaning
The heavy implication that historical ‘abstract’ poetry that people have been analysing for ages without being able to conclude the meaning could have just been shitpost level in-jokes between poets is sending me.
Okay, but unironically yes.
One of my favorite examples of this is "The Raven," by Edgar Allen Poe.
You've undoubtedly read countless analyses of the symbolism and themes of the Raven. But if you're the sort of person who writes metered poetry, it's something entirely different.
It's a hysterical, but historical fact that Poe wrote it for a bar bet. One of his editors said "Nobody could ever write a coherent poem using trochaic octameter" and Poe said "Hold my beer." And because he was one of the greatest phonic poets in human history, he used what would have been an awkward rhyming scheme for anyone else and he packed it full of alliteration, assonance, and sibilance.
It's the equivalent of the drum solo in the live version of YYZ.

Does your first name get misspelled often?
yes
no
Winter is Winter, kind of hard to misspell that unless you're not familiar with the spelling in English.
However, my original name (Winter is my chosen name) isn't an uncommon name, but depending on where I was living/visiting, I could get different spellings. In the UK and in early education my name was rarely misspelled for obvious reasons as the other kids and teachers know what it looks like, when I was in France I got a lot of Ashleigh, and when I visited the USA I often got a lot of Ashlee if no one knew how I spelled it before hand.
Sometimes when people are in a hurry I would get an Ashely on an e-mail.
