Winter Solider Billy on a mission and Max sees him. She runs over to Billy and hugs him, but is horrified to see that Billy barley recognizes her. She pleads with billy and starts to cry a little as she begs him to remember her.

As billy sees her tears, he feels bad. Who is she and why is she crying? Billy looks looks around and sees a little dandelion. He picks it and holds out for her.

“Come on don’t cry, I’m sure everything will be okay.” He says in Russian. Max doesn’t understand him but she takes the flower and hugs billy again.

If it makes her feel Better and stop crying then billy doesn’t mind it so much.

He knows she doesn't get it. Doesn't understand the seriousness of the situation. The only thing she knows for certain is that Niel yells at him and occasionally dishes out some weird ass punishments, but she's never witnessed him getting physical with Billy before. His dad makes sure she's gone or waits until nightfall when she's asleep. It's worked until now, but he has a bad fucking feeling that if she doesn't high tail it to her room when they get inside, that may be about to change. 

"Shit. I'm-" He's What? Sorry ? He's not fucking sorry. She needs to understand. " We've never been this late before, he's going to be extra pissed off and I dont- " Know what will happen. " just.. go to your room. Understand?" 

She still doesn't look like she quite gets it, but she whispers, "I understand."

"Great." He pulls back onto the road. "Let's just get this over with, then." 

Just get it over with. 

He nearly slams on the breaks when Harrington's voice echoes in his head. He can't think about that now. He needs to mentally prepare himself to deal with whatever punishment his dad decides to give him. He can't be thinking of Harrington's blood on his knuckles, or the sound of his soft snoring when they'd left. Those thoughts were dangerous.

Before S3, I always assumed Billy's mom was dead. Never in a million years did I think she had abandoned him... to her own abuser.

Billy really won the fucking lottery on parents.

Yet, he never once tried to leave himself. Never abandoned Max. Not even after he turned 18. For all his "I don't care what Max does" rhetoric to Neil, he's shown he cares about protecting her (in some admittedly messed up ways).

And then he goes out fighting a goddamn monster to protect all the kids. Billy Hargrove is better than his parents will ever be.
